Phoenix, AZ–Recent revelations about Republican candidate Joe Ortiz raises questions about his judgement and ability to serve in the State Senate.
Records for Ortiz filed with the Casa Grande Police Department detail disturbing incidents that led to arrests for assault and disorderly conduct.
"Joe Ortiz's past run-ins with the law create a lot of unanswered questions related to his judgement," said Arizona Democratic Party Press Secretary D.B. Mitchell. "He should be honest with the people of the district he wishes to represent about these incidents."
BACKGROUND:
ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
According to Casa Grande Police Department report: "On 09-17-04 at approximately 2045 hrs Joseph Ortiz committed assault under domestic violence by hitting his step-father, Ron Cecil in the face with a closed fist during an argument at [redacted] causing a cut above Mr. Cecil's eye." [Police report]
More from the Casa Grande Police Department report: "Ronnie [Joseph Ortiz's brother] said, Joseph has a bad temper and put him in the hospital several years back when Joseph was having a graduation party … Joseph was hitting Ronnie's head in to the ground giving him a concussion. Ronnie ended up in the hospital after that." [Police report]
ARRESTED FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT
According to Casa Grande Police Department report: "On Saturday, February 05, 2005 around 0111 hours, both Roy Russell and Joe Ortiz committed disorderly conduct after each admitted to fighting at McMasher's Bar." [Police report]
