MAGA Lies and Smears Seek to Justify Military Presence in American Cities: a Case Study in Bullshit with AZ Congresscritter Paul Gosar

I recently got my newletter from MAGA Arizona Congressmember Paul Gosar, who is one of the most prolific liars in Congress – a high hurdle! But prolific does NOT equal proficient! Here is an example of a stupid and easily debunked lie that Gosar and MAGA are using to justify the military occupation of Washinton DC and their legislation trying to reduce local democratic control of DC for… reasons?

In Gosar’s newletter, #GrOSAR writes:

Congress Advances Gosar Legislation to Make Washington, D.C. Safe 

Earlier this week, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on which I serve held a markup of legislation, including H.R. 5813, to ensure our nation’s capital is safe and beautiful. The legislation empowers District law enforcement to combat the juvenile crime crisis, increases educational opportunities for D.C. children, and ensures a beautiful capital city for all Americans.

My bill establishes a uniform 60-day congressional review period for all D.C. Council legislation, eliminates the ability of the D.C. Council to extend emergency laws in perpetuity, provides for a line item veto of D.C. Acts in Congressional resolutions of disapproval, prohibits the D.C. Council from withdrawing legislation from the congressional review process, prohibits the D.C. Council from passing substantially similar laws to legislation that was successfully disapproved by Congress, and provides for a similar Congressional review process of D.C. regulations and Mayoral executive actions. 

H.R. 5813 takes important steps to end the lawlessness in our nation’s capital. Congress retains ultimate responsibility for the government of the District of Columbia yet in recent years the D.C. Council has advanced a series of dangerous soft-on-crime measures to weaken law enforcement and ignore public safety. The D.C. Council has shown time and time again that it can’t be trusted to put public safety first.  My bill reflects longstanding conservative principles: upholding the Constitution, defending law and order, and ensuring that the federal government fulfills its duty to safeguard the nation’s capital.

As you can see, not only is the Trump Admin trying to intimidate DC residents with a military occupation of our capital city using national guard troops, MAGA are pushing legislation to weaken local democracy in DC. Because it’s controlled by Democrats… duhh.

Gosar includes the following graph above this section of his ‘newsletter’ (should be called ‘pack of electronic lies to my constituents, whom Gosar believes to be quite stupid, and for which the puplic is paying”):

You can see that Gosar wants you to believe murder is rampant in Washington DC when compared to…. a bunch of foreign cities? Why does he compare DC to Bogota, Mexico City, Islamabad, and Lima? Why use Ottowa, Paris, Havana, Delhi, London and Mardrid? What? Why, DC looks positively like a war zone in comparison to all those international cities, doesn’t it?

But that only because in comparison to most places in the world, our everyday lives DO resemble a war zone! And that’s what Republicans have created! It is their refusal to do ANYTHING about gun violence that makes America the murder captial of fucking world, espcially when it comes to mass shooting events and gun deaths, which is now the leading cause of death among Americans under 17!

But when you compare apples to apples and compare DC to major metro areas in REPUBLICAN governed states, you get a MUCH different picture. One that Gosar and MAGAts in Congress hope you don’t interrogate too closely.

Well now, that’s a much different perspective, wouldn’t you say? Seems Washington DC is a haven of safety compared to metros in MAGA-led states, doesn’t it? And these numbers are from BEFORE Trump sent in the Guard to intimidate and harrass DC residents. Turns out that citizens in DC – who BTW are not given full representation in Congress and in Presidential elections, which we should fix with statehood for DC – are safter than folks in Cleveland – that notorious buckeye-infested hell hole of murder and mayhem!

So why does GrOSAR lie so brazenly by omission and misdriection? Because he works to keep his constituents in a perpetual fog of fear, which is proven to make people vote and opine more conseratively and to not question their wannabe tin-horn dictators like Trump and Gosar. Gosar and Trump lie constantly to keep eveyone on edge, unsure about reality, and alert for danger so that they won’t question the MAGA drive to destroy our freedoms, our democracy, and the peaceful and prosperous world order we spilled American blood over generations to build.

Well…. Fuck that! And Fuck Gosar and his MAGA cadres of fascist thugs! Push back on their lies. Non-violently resist their trampling our freedoms and privileges as American citizens and residents. Disobey. Resist. Rally. We are the real Americans – they are fascist trash that our fathers and grandfathers would have spit on and ostracised from public life for betraying America’s ideals and traditions!

We are NOT a fascist nation, but certain factions that wish we were crawl out of the woodwork every so often to test that proposition. Today it’s your turn, and your duty to the future, to either straighten them out or to stomp them back into the basement of American life.
