I strongly support the free press and independent journalists, especially those that cover local stories and shed light on what we can do directly to improve our communities. World news and national news are important, but opportunities for us to make a substantial difference on those issues are few and impersonal. They pale in comparison to the impact we can make in our own communities. By highlighting local events and issues, sources like the Tucson Agenda and the Arizona Agenda enable us to know what’s needed and how we can help. The added benefit is that the effects of our efforts are visible, reinforcing, and empowering, a gift that keeps on giving.
