Marcia Busching for Corporation Commission

First, diclosure: Marcia Busching and I were law partners for 12 years, and I've supported her campaign from day 1. Each of the Democratic candidates has their own strengths, and I support them all, but in this post I focus solely on the candidate I know best – Marcia Busching.  I feel uniquely qualified to talk to Marcia's candidacy because, as someone who's worked closely with Marcia over many years, I have an insider's take on who Marcia is and what she can bring to the Corporation Commission.

Contrary to popular belief, the Corporation Commissioners are not bureaucrats, they're policy makers. And the policies they implement determine whether Arizona weans itself from fossil fuels and becomes the solar Mecca it has the potential to be. 

But the challenge is enormous. The two seats not up for election this time both are occupied by Republicans. So we need at least two and preferably all three of the seats that are at stake. Just putting Dems in office is nowhere near sufficient, however. ACC policy is pretty technical stuff. So intellect is crucial. You can't effectively promote good policy if you don't get the technical side. The Republicans are in good shape already on this front. I happen to know one of the sitting Commissioners, Brenda Burns. She and I don't share many political views, but she's a personal friend and there are very few people I'd put up against her intellectually. She's whip smart. 

So, we not only need Democrats on the Commission, we need at least one who is Brenda's intellectual peer, which is why it's so important Marcia Busching is elected. We couldn't have a quicker study and more effective advocate for progressive energy policy on the ACC than Marica. I worked with her for 12 years, and time after time saw her achieve results I would not have thought possible. Vote for all three Democrats, but when you're talking to your friends about the race, let them know what an asset we'd have on the ACC if Marcia wins.
