Maricopa Sheriff Nominee Tyler Kamp Condemns Jerry Sheridan for Saying He Would Disobey a Federal Judge’s Order

What is it with MAGA candidates like Donald Trump and Jerry Sheridan that do not think the law applies to them?

In a debate last week with his Democratic opponent, Tyler Kamp, Mr. Sheridan, a one time chief deputy for Joe Arpaio and a failed candidate for Sheriff in 2020 who is on the Brady List for dishonesty, admitted during the event that he defied a federal judges order while in office and would do so again.

On defying a federal judge while he was Chief Deputy, Sheridan said:

“He also wanted me to discipline some of my deputies, about 45 of them for policies that didn’t exist when they did it so I refused to do it so yes, I stood my ground and I knew at the time, I was going to take some hits for it. I think people in this county want a leader that is not afraid to do the right thing when the right thing needs to be done and if that is disagreeing with a federal district court judge and suffering the consequences of that, well, so be it.”

Sheridan refused to respond to questions from a local NBC journalist following the debate after first declaring to him that he did not say he would defy a federal judge.

How Trumpian and messed up is that?

It did not take long for Mr. Kamp to respond to Mr. Sheridan’s comments during the debate, posting on social media:

Later in responding to a reporter from AZ Family (Channel Three,) Mr. Kamp said:

“It’s important that we understand our roles and responsibilities. The Sheriff’s office role is to provide protection and safety for the people of this county. We need to stay in our lane as well.”

He also posted:

Maricopa County needs a Sheriff that applies the law, not someone who makes it up to suit their personal whims at any given moment.

With his responses at last weeks debate, Mr. Sheridan has proven again he is not that person.
