Back in June when Brian Miller was still chairman of the Pima County Republican Party, the Pima County GOP issued this statement in response to an online poll being conducted by another organization asking Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to resign from office because they feel they are without representation in Congress while she is recovering from a gunshot to the head from a would-be assassin. Pima GOP Says It "Has Not and Will Not Support or Pursue Efforts To Remove Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords" Before 2012 Election:
The Pima GOP has not and will not support or pursue efforts to remove Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords from her seat in Congress prior to the end of her elected term. Our prayers for a full and speedy recovery are with Ms. Giffords. We remain committed to fielding a quality candidate for the 2012 election cycle, and our efforts are and will remain focused on the normal election process.
Apparently the husband of the immediate past chairwoman of the Pima County Republican Party, Judy White, and a politico in the Pima County and Arizona Republican Party in his own right, begs to differ.
Benny White, who has a long history of writing polemic letters to the Arizona Daily Star, managed to slip this gem past the Star's editor (The Star has also editorially opined against any calls for Rep. Giffords to resign). Letters to the editor:
Feeling unrepresented in debt-ceiling fight
I would like to comment to my U.S. representative about the debt-ceiling discussions that are going on in Washington. However, since I reside in Congressional District 8 (Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' district), I don't have a representative in Congress.
When I try to correspond with other representatives, I get a response that I am not in their district. Thus, my future and that of my family will be shaped without any input from me.
Benny White
Retired, Tucson
For most of my adult life I have felt "unrepresented" by Arizona's Republican congressional delegation. They certainly have never represented my views. And for many years, Sen. John McCain missed many hundreds of votes while he pursued his quixotic quest for the presidency. Where was Benny to complain then?
The substance of Benny's letter is pure bullshit. He is a politico in the Pima County and Arizona Republican Party (a fact he fails to disclose). He can pick up the phone any time he wants and call Arizona's Republican congressional delegation and they will take his call. He has far more influence on Arizona politics than he merits.
Benny should be telling Republicans to stop holding America hostage and threatening to default on the federal debt to extract extortion for their radical extremist agenda. He could use his position in the Republican Party to do some good, for a change. Instead he writes polemic letters to the editor.
Mark Halperin has a pejorative for this guy.
