Mark Kelly Sharpens the Knives Against Kari Lake

US Senator Mark Kelly dramatically changed his tone in a recent letter to constituents. Instead of standard reports about laws he helped pass, he blasts Kari Lake as delusional, dangerous and a demagogue.

I am pleased to see his new stance because he’s right. This pugnacious approach is what I expect from a fighter pilot who flew combat missions in the Gulf War.

• Lake is a failed candidate who has never held office. A former Fox news reader, she lost the 2020 race for Arizona Governor and wasted months, losing repeatedly in the courts with an evidence-free challenge of the election. The Arizona Supreme fined her.
• A staunch MAGA cult member, she demonizes immigrants and homeless people, aims to decertify the 2020 election, wants to imprison her opponents, calls for a ban on voting machines and opposes abortion.
• In fact, Lake has moved in with Trump. She “practically lives” at his Mar-a-Lago resort and “is there every night,” People Magazine reports. Said a source: “Kari Lake is there every night… She’s there all the time. There’s a suite there that she practically lives in.”

Lake a threat to democracy

“I am concerned about the threat she poses to my state and our country, Kelly wrote. “We’re going to make sure every Arizona voter knows that Lake is a dangerous demagogue who’s only interested in grabbing power and abusing power for its own sake.”

Lake is heavily favored to become her state and party’s Senate pick next year, according to a new poll.

“She’s raring to run in 2024, once again on a platform of overturning our elections and threatening our democracy. She has said she might run for the US Senate. But she also seems to be angling to be Trump’s vice-presidential nominee if he wins the GOP presidential nomination.”

“But whether she’s on the ballot for Senate or Vice President, the danger she poses to our democracy is the same. It’s serious,” Kelly wrote.

Sick and tired

“She has even gone beyond the cynical into the delusional, calling herself ‘Governor.’ When Lake won the CPAC straw poll, her campaign tweeted, “We’re flattered, but unfortunately, our legal team says the Constitution won’t allow for her to serve as Governor and VP at the same time.’

“Kelly delivered a haymaker saying, “Frankly, I’m sick and tired of politicians who would rather tell people what they want to hear or what they want to believe than to tell the truth.

“That’s not leadership. And it doesn’t do a single thing for a family that lost a job or who is struggling to pay their bills.”
