Marney Babbitt-Pierce wants to expand Clarkdale in a Collaborative and Sustainable Way as a New Town Council Member

Clarkdale Arizona is Arizona’s original planned community. Located in the Verde Valley, it is 30 minutes from Sedona. The small town of about 4,000 people, originally a mining town now offers attractions like a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad, the Arizona Copper Art Museum, the Tuzigoot National Monument (which holds “the ruins of an ancient Sinagua Indian pueblo,”) and wineries; Bodega Pierce, Chateau Tumbleweed, and the Southwest Wine Center.

Marney Babbitt-Pierce was born and raised in Flagstaff. Her maternal great grandfather was the Superintendent of the Clarkdale Smelter. She would like to help the town grow and thrive as a new councilperson in January 2021.

Currently, the chairperson of the Clarkdale Parks and Recreation Commission, Mrs. Babbitt-Pierce wants to fashion collaborative relationships in strategically developing Clarkdale in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way.

Mrs. Babbitt-Pierce graciously took some time to discuss her candidacy and goals if she earns a seat on the Town Council.

The questions and her responses are below.

  • Please tell the reader what are at least two qualifications that make you ideal for the Clarkdale Town Council.

I have completed the Yavapai County Citizens Academy where I gained a greater understanding of the County functions and its leaders.”

  • In your opinion, what are three strengths of the Town of Clarkdale?

  • “Our community: everyone has chosen to live here and it makes us a wonderful and vibrant community.”
  • “Our commitment to the environment, specifically the Verde River.”
  • “The opportunities that exist from a small, tight-knit community.”

  • “Clarkdale’s Commercial Interests: Supporting existing businesses and bringing in businesses that complement and support those already here.”

  •  “Clarkdale’s Cultural and Educational Centers: We are very fortunate to have Yavapai College in our community and I look forward to bringing companion businesses to support the colleges’ efforts as well as existing cultural centers like the museums and railroad.”

  • Is there anything you would like the voter to know about you that was not addressed in the first five questions?

“My husband Michael Pierce and I have chosen Clarkdale as our home. I am running to ensure a vibrant and thriving community for our growing family and our community.”
