Maybe Arizona should follow Florida’s example

by David Safier

In the Florida state Capitol, every phone has an alert button.

At the touch of a button, an unseen officer in the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Office can instantly monitor a conversation in Senate offices and respond if needed.

Why the new precaution? Get ready. A new law allows guns in the Capitol, and everywhere else they aren't specifically prohibited by state law. It used to be, people had to put their firearms in a police lock box when they walked in. No longer. So the legislators are nervous, not knowing what angry constituent (or persistent lobbyist?) might be packing heat.

I wonder if they teach the concept of irony in Florida schools. If so, English teachers should consider using this story as a prime example.
