Showcasing another example about how good government is supposed to be and the value of private and public partnerships, Mayor Regina Romero, along with State Representative Andres Cano (D-LD 3,) Councilman Kevin Dahl, former State Senator and current Congressional Candidate Kirsten Engel, and Newport SW President David Wohl attended the grand opening of the 40 family unit affordable Newport housing development at Amphi in Central Tucson.

Commenting on the grand opening, Mayor Romero stated:
“Another win for housing affordability! Today I attended the grand opening of Newport at Amphi, a newly-built 40-unit family housing complex on Prince/Stone that will offer 1-, 2-, and 3- bedroom apartments. The majority of units will be affordable to households with no more than 50% of the area median income for Pima County. This is made possible through project-based rental assistance provided by the City of Tucson Department of Housing and Community Development.

This project was built by community for community! Thank you Poster Mirto McDonald Tofel Dent Construction. Financing for this project was provided by the Arizona Department of Housing City of Tucson, Arizona PNC Bank, and Raymond James Tax Credit Investments. Also, special thanks to Arizona Department of Housing Director, Tom Simplott.
The City of Tucson’s most-recent Housing Market Study showed a lack of affordable housing opportunities for lower income individuals and families in Tucson. As a result I directed our City Manager to create the Housing Affordability Strategy for Tucson (HAST). https://housingaffordability.tucsonaz.gov“
Representative Cano added:
“40 Southern Arizona families will soon have an affordable home at Newport at Amphi. These 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments are a critical part of the solution to confront rising costs and the housing shortage throughout our state.”
Former State Senator and current Congressional District Six House Candidate Kirsten Engel posted:
“Kids can’t get back to school and parents can’t hold down jobs without a safe place to live. But Arizona is struggling with a severe shortage of affordable housing and will continue to need federal help to build new housing. So glad to be part of the ribbon cutting for these 40 new affordable units at Newport at Amphi made possible with federal housing tax credits as well as state and city dollars. This development is a true team effort! Learn more here: https://www.newportpartners.com/portfolio/newport-at-amphi”
This is what public service is supposed to be about. Congratulations to everyone that made this affordable housing structure a reality.
