Mayors Evans, Gallego, and Romero Declare State of Emergencies in Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson

Over the last 24 hours, Mayors Coral Evans of Flagstaff, Kate Gallego of Phoenix, and Regina Romero of Tucson have issued State of Emergency Proclamations for their respected cities to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.

While all three Mayors had taken steps over the last couple of weeks to fight the spread of the Coronavirus, these latest measures, after consultation with local civic and business leaders, are designed to save lives and curb the spread of the virus by promoting greater social distancing by closing establishments like restaurants (except for take out and delivery in some cases), bars, gyms, museums, and libraries.

Mayor Evans issued a proclamation on the Flagstaff City Government website and put forward a video discussing her decision. Please click here to access it.

Mayor Gallego issued a statement on Twitter and followed it up with a video update to Phoenix residents. Her office later issued a public written statement (Mayor Gallego Declares State of Emergency in Response to COVID-19.)

Mayor Romero issued a statement  (PRESS RELEASE – Mayor Romero Declares Local Emergency (1)) to her constituents through the City of Tucson and social media as well.

It is important for people throughout all of Arizona to heed the guidance of their local, state, and national leaders and follow the health and safety guidelines put forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on the precautions to take during this situation.

Please read over the proclamations of the city you live in to see what establishments are closed.

Mayor Evans may have captured the sentiments of these three Mayors and other local and state leaders when she said: “We will definitely weather this.”

We will.
