Mendoza, Galán-Woods, and New Call Out Congressional Republicans for Allowing the Trump Shutdown

Democrats in Arizona House Congressional Battleground Districts have called out Representatives Juan Ciscomani, David Schweikert, and Eli Crane for their role in allowing the Trump Shutdown and doing NOTHING to protect affordable health care for Arizonans and Americans.

JoAnna Mendoza

Arizona CD Six Democratic Candidate JoAnna Mendoza wrote in a press release:

“Once again, Juan Ciscomani shows us what he is – spineless. Republicans decided to shut down our federal government instead of negotiating a budget that protects health care and lowers costs for working Arizonans. Juan Ciscomani and House Republicans didn’t even show up.”

“Members should stay in Washington until they can negotiate a budget to re-open the government and protect health care for millions of Americans. Congressman Ciscomani, withholding your salary will not help families put food on the table or pay bills, nor will it erase the fact that you voted to gut health care and safety net programs.”

Marlene Galán-Woods

Arizona CD One Democratic Candidate Marlene Galán-Woods stated:

“My parents fled Cuba to escape Fidel Castro in the sixties. They came to the United States of America for freedom and opportunity, the same freedoms that Trump and Republicans are threatening.”

“Health care for children, for our veterans, and for seniors is all at risk because MAGA Republicans, once again, chose to shut down the government instead of protecting Americans’ health care. It’s shameful. So let’s be clear, Republicans own this shutdown. I am so proud to be part of this powerhouse group of Latina candidates backed by BOLD PAC. Let’s flip this seat. Let’s win back the House of Representatives.”

Jonathan Nez

In a fundraising letter, CD Two Candidate and former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez said:

“As you’ve probably seen in the news, our federal government has shut down once again because of extreme partisanship in Washington.

And once again, it’s our communities in rural Arizona and across Indian Country who stand to lose the most. Unlike Eli Crane, the man who is supposed to be working on our behalf in Congress, folks in our district can’t afford to retreat to their McMansion in a gated community when times get tough.

Instead of working on a bipartisan plan to keep the government open, extremists like Eli Crane are doing everything they can to raise health care costs and cut critical funding for tribal services, education, and rural infrastructure.

Let’s be clear:

Eli Crane’s preferred plan would hike premiums, prescription costs, and out-of-pocket expenses for families who are already feeling the pinch.
We need leaders who are ready to work together to keep the government open and lower costs—not push political agendas at our expense.

From the Navajo Nation to the White Mountains, and across all of AZ-02, people are tired of dysfunction and extremism. What we need is common-sense leadership focused on real people, real families, and real solutions — not more of the same from Eli Crane.”
