MoveOn Targets Ciscomaga

MoveOn, the progressive advocacy group, has put MAGA Congressman Juan Ciscomaga (Ciscomani to Republicans) in its crosshairs. It branded the Congressional District 6 freshman a member of the right-wing “Complicit Caucus.”

“There is no such thing as a Republican moderate anymore. There are either Republicans
who boast of their MAGA extremism or those who try to hide it. And we’re going to make sure that every voter in the Complicit Caucus districts knows it,” said Rahna Epting, Executive Director of MoveOn.

Authoritarian agenda

Ciscomani (and political Jan. 6 coup plotter David Schweikert (CD1) were identified as members of the “Complicit Caucus” because they’re complicit in advancing wacko Marjorie Taylor Greene’s authoritarian agenda. While branding themselves as moderates, these Republicans vote to attack abortion access, cut Medicaid, and serve the interests of corporate lobbyists.

MoveOn joins numerous national progressive groups aiming to oust Ciscomani, who won office in 2020 by only 1.5% — or 5,232 votes out of 349,170 cast. He is deemed politically and electorally vulnerable.

“We’ve launched a seven-figure campaign to make it clear to voters that the Complicit Caucus members are Greene clones. They threaten health care. They enable gun violence. They hold the full faith and credit of the U.S. Treasury hostage to MAGA demands for draconian cuts to programs that the American people depend on,” Epting said.

In just the first 100 days of the 118th Congress, Ciscomani voted in lockstep with Greene to:

• Gut House ethics rules and let corrupt congressional colleagues go unchecked.
• Slash funding for the IRS and allow wealthy tax cheats to go undetected.
• Set up the Orwellian-named “Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the
  Federal Government” to launch a shameless January 6 counter-investigation.
• Pass two anti-abortion measures.
• Allow more drilling on public lands.
• Pass four bills to undermine COVID protections.
• Overturn criminal justice reform and voting rights measures passed by the
  democratically elected D.C. City Council.

In addition, with just one exception, every member of the Complicit Caucus voted with
Greene on bills enabling far-right groups to push through book bans and harmful restrictions
for transgender students, and undoing virtually all of the important clean-energy laws that
Democrats passed last year.

“The fact is this: MAGA extremist policies that attack our democracy, rights, and dignity
couldn’t get anywhere without the Complicit Caucus quietly backing them,” Epting said.

MoveOn will provide ongoing organizing, training, community building, support, phone banking, email and text alerts, strategic guidance, ad campaigns and opposition research to defeat Ciscomani.

This is how we will defeat MAGA and take back power in 2024,” Epting said.
