Editor’s note: this is a condensed transcript of Rosenberg’s speech about the election.

Joe Biden is a good president. The country’s better off. We have a very strong case for reelection. The Democratic Party is strong, winning elections all across the country. We’re raising tons of money, and we are fired up and ready to go in the election.
Trump had grossly mismanaged the 2020-2023 pandemic, which cratered the American economy. We had an insurrection against the United States. This was the first time there had not been a peaceful transfer of power in our history.
Biden told us in 2020 that he was going to get us to the other side of all that. We’ve come so far. Our recovery from COVID-19 is the best of any advanced economy in the world. Our GDP growth here during this period has been more than double the next economy of the advanced economies.
We have the lowest inflation rate of any modern economy in the world and the best job market since the 1960s. We’ve had this explosion of new business formations and startups that have made, as the Wall Street Journal called the other day, the American economy the envy of the world. The stock market has been breaking records.

The deficit is trillions of dollars less than it was before. We’ve had these three big bills that Biden passed in recent years, which will create jobs and opportunities for American workers for a generation to come while also dramatically accelerating the energy transition that’s so critical for our survival and for countering climate change.
He’s been a good and successful president. We have to be loud and proud about that when we make our case to the American people. We have so much to work with. Flows to the border have significantly come down this year. Crime and murder rates have dropped across the country. Inflation is down from far below where it was two years ago, and we even saw that just recently, food prices have started to drop. We’ve seen many large new stores announce that they’re going to be cutting food prices, other grocery prices and other common household item prices.
In 2023, we produced more oil, gas and renewables than in any year in American history, making us far more energy-independent than we’ve been in decades. Joe Biden has been a good president, and we have a strong case to make for his reelection. It’s so strong that, in some ways, what’s happening now in this election is that the Republicans are running out of things to attack Biden on the economy, which is strong.
And, considering his age, I think that the president has done a lot to assuage people’s concerns with his strong performance in the State of the Union and at the White House Correspondents Dinner a few weeks ago. As we all know, his age is going to be an issue in this election. It’s not something we can run away from, but we must tie it back to his presidency’s success. We have to say that because of Joe Biden’s age, wisdom, and experience, not despite it.
But we’ve also had this extraordinary thing happen in recent years since Dobbs. We’ve had tremendous Democrats continue to overperform, and Republicans continue to struggle. This is highly unusual. The party in power always loses ground when in American politics, when you’re in the presidency, you lose midterm elections, you lose special elections, you lose off your elections.
The exact opposite thing happened in 2022, and we picked up a Senate seat, two governorships, and four state legislative chambers. In the United States, we actually outperformed our 2020 numbers in Arizona, Georgia, Minnesota, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Colorado.
Ugliness of Trump
it’s always been my view that the ugliness of Trump 2024 was going to weigh him down and make it impossible for him to win, as the ugliness of MAGA weighed down Republicans in 2018, 2020, and 2022. It’s particularly true this time because Trump 2024 is a whole lot weaker and worse than any version of Trump we’ve seen before. His performance on the stump is far more erratic and disturbed, deranged, even wild.
He’s making political mistakes. His public speeches are hurting him on the stump. He feels like a diminished. I watched some videos of him speaking in 2016. He’s not the same man. He’s deeply diminished from where he was in earlier iterations of Trump.
Second, we know that his agenda is far more extreme and dangerous than it was previously.
This is what I think the Republicans are running in this election:
- Trump wants Putin to win and the West to lose.
- He wants the border to be in chaos and migrants to keep flowing into the country.
- He wants the economy to crash. And his economic plan would slow growth, cause inflation to soar, and all of us to lose.
- He wants women and people of color to lose more freedoms and rights.
- He wants the planet to warm faster.
- He wants 10-year-olds to carry their rapist babies to term and for more women to die in operating room tables.
- He wants tens of millions of people to lose their health insurance.
- He wants more dead kids in schools.
- He wants verified rapists in positions of authority.
- He wants a restoration of pre-civil rights era white supremacy.
- He wants big tax cuts for his donors, higher deficits and less for everyone else.
- He wants books banned across the U.S.
- He wants seniors to pay more for insulin and prescription drugs.
- He wants foreign governments free to pollute our daily discourse and harass our citizens online.
- He wants teenagers to work night shifts at meatpacking plants and not go to school.
- He wants the minimum wage to stay at $7.25 an hour.
- He wants mass arrests and mass deportations of immigrants who have long settled in the U.S.
- He wants insurrectionists to get pardoned.
- He wants to end American democracy for all time.
That’s what Donald Trump wants. That’s why we’re all here, right? That’s why we’re working so hard.
Abortion extremist
Donald Trump did in his diminishment, and his idiocy was that he actually made it clear to all of us that he’s the most dangerous abortion extremist that’s ever walked the face of the earth, right? And that here he is, having chosen to have taken, he could have settled on the 15-week ban.
I’ve called for this to be an intense month of work, making June count. Many of you have risen to this challenge. In the last two weeks, we’ve raised over $350,000 on the Hopium site for candidates and parties around the country. It’s been amazing—the rewarding and inspiring set of activities by all of you.
It’s also important that we get loud by volunteering and being information warriors. We have to be loud every day. Republicans have this extraordinary, unprecedented propaganda machine.
We need to push our performance to the upper end of what’s possible. We also have to get louder. We, like an information-age victory garden, have a role to play in our networks, in our conversations, and in our engagement with other people to tell the story of Joe Biden and the Democrats and how we’ve made things better—and how Trump and MAGA are going to make things far worse.

These are easy stories to tell because they’re true. Whatever version of that story that matters to you, whether it’s climate change or reproductive freedoms or democracy, or the economy, whatever part of that story that we’re going to make things better over the next four years, and they’re going to make things worse.
It’s important to you that you bring passion and intensity. You need to tell that story as much as you can. We need to get louder. If two to three million of us do this every day, we can start to really cut into the loudness gap that exists in American politics today.
