Editor’s note: this is a condensed transcript of Rosenberg’s speech about the election.
The Republican party is broken.

Since the spring of 2022, when Dobbs happened just two years ago, something broke inside the Republican party. For many Republicans, this was a bridge too far. It was just too much. Their relationship with the Republican Party has loosened, and it has caused the party financial problems.
And it’s also caused them performance problems in the elections that we’ve seen. Democrats continue to overperform. They continue to struggle. That happened throughout 2023 as well, right?
- We flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court seat in April of last year.
- We won Colorado Springs and Jacksonville, Florida, two of the largest Republican-held cities in the country.
- We took away the six-week abortion ban in Ohio—an amazing victory.
- We then flipped the state assembly in Virginia. We damaged the ability of the Republicans to believe that the 15-week abortion ban was an escape hatch for them on this issue.
2023 was a blue wave year. It was a remarkable performance of the Democratic Party. All kinds of races where we overperform, and they struggle in early 2024. I think the data so far suggests that we’ve been doing very well.

MAGA is too dangerous
MAGA 2024 is not MAGA 2020 and 2016. It’s far more dangerous. It’s far more extreme than it was. The relationship of many of these non-MAGA Republicans has been really loosened.
They’re up for grabs. I think that many of them abandoned Trump. They certainly did abandon the Republican Party in 2022. And I think we have a lot of opportunity to really break and split their coalition as we head into 2024 because MAGA is too extreme. It’s too dangerous for the country.

We’re going into a battleground that’s been voting against MAGA repeatedly. Our party is also strong. We’re dramatically outraising Republicans at the presidential, Senate, and House levels. The Republicans are so far behind now in money and organization.
We’re way ahead of Republicans in building a presidential campaign. They’re so far behind, in my view. They’re not going to be able to build the kind of traditional presidential campaign that every party has run over the last several generations.
They’re too far behind. They had too little money, and we’re ahead of them in this. We have significant financial and organizational advantages here.
Not only do we have a better candidate who’s done a good job and been a good president, but we also have a stronger party and a stronger political apparatus underneath us, largely because of all of you.
It’s really your passion, your intensity, your passion. Love of country is this secret weapon that we have that we’re going to be able to deploy in the elections as we’ve been deploying in all these other elections in recent years.
Seven reasons Trump will lose
All of you who follow me know there are six things that they’re going to come to learn about him. Now seven that he’s a convicted felon — 34 counts. But there are six more things that are going to be very difficult for Trump to overcome this election:

- He raped Eugene Carol in a department store dressing room.
- He committed historic financial fraud in New York and has now been fined hundreds of millions of dollars for defrauding the government for decades.
- He stole America’s secrets, lied to the FBI about them, shared those secrets with other people, and committed the greatest betrayal of the country by any former president in our history.
- He tried to overturn an American election, a legitimate election. He led an armed attack against the Capitol, and he’s now promised to finish the job of ending American democracy if he gets into power in January of 2025.
- He and his family have corruptly taken more money from foreign governments than any family in American history, including just in the last few weeks when the pro-Russian government in Serbia just granted the Kushner companies this massive concession on one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in debt, in the capital of the country.
- He is singularly responsible for ending Roe v. Wade and stripping the rights and freedoms of way and more than half the population. In his moment of diminishment and idiocy in the last few weeks, he came out for the state’s rights view of what should happen next. He viewed it as a clever ploy where he was not really pinned down on abortion. But if you’re for Idaho, which has a total ban, mandatory jail time for doctors, and these anti-trafficking statutes where if you bring a minor across the border into another state for health care, for basic health care, you can be imprisoned.
It’s important to you that you bring passion and intensity. You need to tell that story as much as you can. We need to get louder. If two to three million of us do this every day, we can start to really cut into the loudness gap that exists in American politics today.
