My Travel Map

Create your own visited countries map.

I consider myself a fairly well-traveled person. I’ve been to 38 countries, so far. I filled my first passport and had to have extra pages installed. But really, I’ve been to only a small percentage (16%) of the world’s nations. When viewed in the context of the entire wide world, it’s really a pitifully limited experience of the human condition.

I think it’s true that travel broadens a person. But my experiences have largely been in Western European countries. I have traveled, and even lived temporarily in places as diverse as Morroco, Turkey, several counties of the former Eastern Bloc (before the USSR imploded), and Jamaica. Those experiences have given me an appreciation for other cultural views, and peoples’ struggle for survival and dignity in very different economic circumstances than my own. But yet there is so much I still have only seen second-hand.

I’ve never been to South or Central America, nor sub-Saharan Africa or Asia. Easily 3/4 of the world I’ve seen none of. I guess I had better get busy with the traveling before ‘peak oil’ ensures than none of us ever go more the 50 miles from home.
