A recent NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds that two-thirds of Republicans would still vote for Trump even if he is found guilty of a crime.
There are multiple criminal investigations into Trump — and yet, all of that seems to matter little to Republicans, according to the NPR poll — 71% of Republicans said they think Trump should be president again.
That drops only 8 points to 63% even if Trump is convicted of a crime.
Overall, 64% of respondents do not want Trump to be president again. And that grows to 70% if he’s convicted of a crime.
That so many rank-and-file Republicans would stick with Trump, seemingly no matter what, shows the real [cult-like hold] he has on the GOP base — and why he’s considered the front-runner to win the Republican nomination again.
Donald Trump has been indicted on national security grounds for his mishandling of classified documents which he stole and took with him to his home in exile in Mar-a-Lago after his failed coup d’état on January 6, under the Espionage Act.
Dozens of Americans have been prosecuted and sent to prison for mishandling of classified documents, including Sandy Berger, former national security adviser to former President Bill Clinton, and General David Petraeus. To not indict Donald Trump for his mishandling of classified documents and obstruction of justice would be special treatment for Trump, and a denial of equal justice under the law.
The New York Times reports that the criminal enterprise which is the Republican Party under Trump intends to weaponize the House, and to wrongfully interfere in the criminal prosecution of Donald Trump, and to obstruct justice on his behalf. Republicans in Congress Decry Trump Indictment and Vow Retaliation:
House Republicans reacted with outrage on Thursday night to the federal indictment of former President Donald J. Trump, vowing to use their majority in Congress to fight the Justice Department.
“WITCH HUNT,” was posted on the Twitter account of the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee within minutes of news of the indictment becoming public.
The chairman of that panel, [Coup Plotter] Representative “Gym” Jordan of Ohio, has used his perch to attempt to pressure the Justice Department over what he views as unfair treatment of Mr. Trump. Mr. Jordan this week sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding unredacted documents concerning the investigation of the special counsel, Jack Smith.
“It’s a sad day for America,” Mr. Jordan said in a statement on Thursday. “God bless President Trump.”
Members of Congress have no power to stop criminal charges, but they can attempt to [unlawfully] interfere with prosecutors through their legislative powers, such as issuing subpoenas, demanding witness interviews or documents, restricting Justice Department funding and using the platform of their offices to attempt to publicly influence the case.
Several Republicans who are closely allied with Mr. Trump said, without evidence, that the indictment was an attempt to distract from their [bogus] investigation into President Biden’s family, including his son Hunter’s business dealings. They made clear that they would target federal law enforcement in retaliation.
These Coup Plotters are openly declaring that they will commit more crimes.
[Coup Plotter] Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, said the case against Mr. Trump was a “stain on our nation that the F.B.I. and D.O.J. are so corrupt and they don’t even hide it anymore.” [Classic example of psychological projection.] She added, “We must win in 2024. We must beat these sick people.”
[unindicted child sex trafficker] Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida and one of Mr. Trump’s closest allies, predicted that the former president would prevail against the charges, and that his rivals would be imprisoned.
So he is promising Stalinist purges of Trump’s political opponents. Tells you everything you need to know about this worthless piece of shit.
“This scheme won’t succeed. President Donald Trump will be back in the White House and Joe Biden will be Hunter’s cellmate,” Mr. Gaetz wrote on Twitter.
It was the second time this year that House Republicans rallied to Mr. Trump’s defense after he was charged criminally. In April, Speaker Kevin McCarthy pledged to use the investigative powers of the House to hold Alvin L. Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, “accountable” after Mr. Trump was charged in New York with 34 counts of falsifying business records.
“Traitor” Kevin McCarthy, who led 147 Republican lawmakers who still objected to the election results even after the Capitol attack on January 6, providing aid and comfort to the violent MAGA insurrectionists – for which they should be “imprisoned not more than ten years … and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States” – said on Thursday:
Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America.
It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades.
I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump…
— Kevin McCarthy (@SpeakerMcCarthy) June 9, 2023
The MAGA/QAnon Cult of Donald Trump does not believe in the rule of law, they believe their “Dear Leader” is above the law, some even consider him a demigod, that’s just how sick these people are.
I will reiterate what I have said many times before. The Party of Trump is a criminal enterprise led by a third-rate mafia “Don” Trump. They are all accomplices, coconspirators and accessories who aid and abet his criminality and corruption. There is not a patriot among them. They put fealty to their “Dear Leader” above all else, including loyalty to their country and our national security, and their oaths of office to defend the Constitution. They reject the rule of law and are amoral. It is a betrayal of the faith of the American people in our constitutional government. They must all be held accountable.
