October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is held each October in the U.S.  Lots of events are coming up to raise awareness and to work to preventing domestic abuse, and assisting victims/survivors.

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins on October 1 and we are excited to Paint Pima Purple and connect with our community to raise awareness about domestic abuse. We firmly believe that together, we can create a community that is safe for everyone in Pima County. We invite you to join us in this effort and make a positive change in the lives of people experiencing domestic abuse. This year, we have both in-person and virtual activities that you can join to show your support! Stuff the Bus: With the support of Sun Tran, we will collect supplies for survivors who are starting a new chapter in their lives free from abuse. These events will take place on: Saturday 10/16 from 8a to 6p at The Loft Cinema Friday 10/29 from 9a to 8p at Walmart Oro Valley. “On Saturday, October 2, the annual Mighty Mujer Triathlon will take place in Oro Valley! This event is an all-women race that started in 2010 in El Paso and has empowered athletes and advocated against domestic violence ever since. This year, triathletes who help raise $500 for Emerge will receive a refund on their registration fee. Click here to learn more. ”

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Wear Purple Day is on October 21, so get out your purple clothing to participate in Pima County.  I usually wear a long sleeved purple tshirt and sometimes show up at Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse  (2545 E. Adams St., just east of Tucson Blvd.) for a photo, to post online.
