On the 112th anniversary of Arizona becoming a state, State Senate Democratic Leader Mitzi Epstein gave an update on the current 2024 legislative session.
In her comments, Senator Epstein started off by saying:
“Our caucus is very grateful to be doing the work to represent the people of the state we all love.”
She then reaffirmed that the Senate Democratic Caucus was “committed to fighting for a brighter future every single day.”
The Senator then laid out the Democrats legislative agenda for this session which included:
- Fully funding K-12 public schools.
- Protecting the right to reproductive freedom and health care.
- Affordable child care, prescription drugs, and housing.
- Protecting the states groundwater supply.
- Ensuring every vote is counted.
In her comments, Senator Epstein applauded the bipartisan election fix for this years electoral cycle arrived at last week, praising the work of Senator Priya Sundareshan and the Senate committee staffs for their hard work to find a bipartisan solution on the issue.
State Representative Laura Terech recently gave an interview to Blog for Arizona on this subject, describing the negotiations in the House.
Epstein also called this achievement “a moment of celebration because collaboration works. Arizonans have asked time and time again for us to find common sense bipartisan solutions to the state’s biggest problems and we have delivered.”
Senator Epstein is right. With a Democratic Governor and slim Republican majorities in the State House and Senate, only bipartisan collaboration and solutions to the states problems will meet the challenges of the moment.
