In this week’s episode of the ADLCC’s “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly,” Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos discussed apparent progress in supplemental funding assistance for children with disabilities, MAGA Republican backtracking on providing free school meals for poor kids, and the Musk/Trump/Vance Central Committee gutting of the United States Department of Education.
Among the Democratic House Leader’s one step forward and two steps backward comments were:
“The good. After huge pressure from Advocates and Democrats, Republicans now indicate they will provide critical funding for people with disabilities. This is a crucial step in ensuring that these programs and vital services will continue to help disabled children and adults. But this is not a done deal, which means we need to stay vigilant.”
“The bad. Unfortunately, the free school lunch bill, House Bill 2213, has not received a final vote. Republicans in the legislature have refused to put this bill on the agenda and are continuing to use our students as political pawns. We need your help to get this funding added to the budget. Please call and email every single Republican in the legislature to ensure students have the resources they need to succeed.”
“Now, the ugly. This week Donald Trump gutted the Department of Education by laying off more than half of its employees. Arizona, we already ranked near the bottom in education and these cuts will only hurt our students and teachers more. If Trump decides to shut down the Department of Education completely, Arizona is set to lose over 800 million dollars in federal funding.”
“With the Republican controlled House and Senate. It’s tough to keep up with the extremism and BS, but Arizona Democrats will not stop fighting for you.”
