Pearce: Budget cuts won’t cause any “real layoffs.” Ed woes “fabricated.”

by David Safier

Why bother with analysis when the quotes speak for themselves?

Here's Russell Pearce as quoted in the Arizona Guardian:

"If you want to get rid of something, you tax it. If you want to increase something, then deregulate and untax it," he said. The budget cuts made last week will not cause any "real layoffs," he said.

The education system in Arizona is in far better shape than most Arizonans believe, Pearce said. The problem is that the education community has distributed "fabricated" information about school funding and teacher pay, which the mainstream media has reported, he said.

I'm not sure what a "real layoff" is. Something that happens to people you know? Or to people who make enough money they matter?

Russell's comments, by the way, are in response to a survey by the Behavior Research Center of Phoenix that found voters believe job creation and public education should be the main concerns of legislators. Looks like Pearce has both of those covered, though "buried" might be a better term.

  1. Dianela Castillo Desperately Seeks Son, Julian Kirchoff, Missing Since February 8, 2007
Peace4TheMissing member, Daniela Castillo, has franticly pleaded for help in the case of her 22-year-old son Julian Ren/Kirchoff, also known as “El Guerito.” She believes that something serious has happened to her son following an incident that occurred at the Esperanza Apartments in Naco, Arizona.
According to an incident report obtained by the Bisbee Police Dept., on February 8, 2007, at 11:30 p.m., the police were called out to the Esperanza Apartments in Naco, Ariz. A young lady by the name Vanessa Estrada, 26, of Nanco, reported that a young man, driving a 1992 gold Nissan Maxima, backed into her car before pulling away at a high rate of speed.
Witnesses, who were interviewed at the scene, reported that it was Julian Kirchoff driving his mother’s Nissan Maxima. They said he appeared to be in a physical altercation with multiple assailants directly before the incident occurred.
Officers dispatched to the scene, secured the area, but never made contact with Julian Kirchoff or the reported assailants to verify the story.
Kirchoff has not been seen nor heard from since that night and the car he was driving, has not been found.
His mother says, “He called me every day to see how I was doing and to tell me he loved me. I haven’t heard from him since that night. I know there’s something wrong. No one has told me much about that night. I’m going crazy worrying about him. I don’t know where he is, who he may be with, or who would have taken him.”
She has heard various rumors about the location of her son; however none of them have been validated. Getting nowhere on her own, knowing that she needed assistance in finding her son, Castillo filed a missing persons report with the Bisbee Police Department. However, the Bisbee Police Department has been of little assistance to her. They have not actively reported or released any information regarding the case or efforts being made to recover Kirchoff.
Castillo and her sister, Rosemary Denogean of Phoenix, have posted multiple flyers on utility poles and windows asking that any information in the disappearance of Julian Kirchoff, be reported to the Bisbee Police Department.
“I can’t even cry anymore,” said Castillo. “I have no more tears to shed. I just want him found. I just want for whoever has him to let him come home to his family.”
Julian has a girl friend and a 2-year-old son.
This case has seen very little publicity and it has been two years. Upon Googling the name “Julian Kirchoff,” I was not able to find any police correspondence or agency websites with his information. It is quite obvious that Dianela Castillo needs assistance in bringing awareness to her son’s case. If you or anyone that you know can assist in this matter, please contact Dianela by going to
