Pearce dirty tricks and last minute desperation

by David Safier

The latest Russell Pearce voter confusion tactic: a robocall targeted at Hispanic voters telling them to write in a candidate because "you should know that Russell Pearce and Jerry Lewis are Republicans."

Of course, a write-in is generally a wasted vote, and that's especially true since no one has registered as a write-in candidate, which you have to do if votes for you are going to count.

The source of the robocall is Safeguard Arizona's Future PAC, chaired by Ron Ludders, a tea party leader. The voice on the call is a Hispanic male. He says among other things, "The only other candidate, Olivia Cortes, was forced to withdraw last month." Cortes wasn't forced to withdraw, of course. She got out when it looked like her sham candidacy was in serious trouble. Oh, and she's a Republican, just like Pearce and Lewis.

Below is the text of the call. You can hear it here.

"Voters beware: If you plan to vote this Tuesday, you should know that Russell Pearce and Jerry Lewis are Republicans. The only other candidate, Olivia Cortes, was forced to withdraw last month.

"You can protest this one-sided election by writing in your own candidate. This message is paid for by the Safeguard Arizona Future PAC, because we believe a well-informed voter is the best voter."
