Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego spent some of her time last week, saluting and helping activists who devote their time and resources to helping cancer victims and individuals who are susceptible to falling.
On September 28, 2022, the Mayor joined activists from the Joy Bus, an organization dedicated to delivering meals to homebound cancer patients, and dropped off food for the 20,000th household.
The Mayor posted on both Facebook and Twitter
“It was a pleasure to deliver meals to Kim and Kathy on behalf of The Joy Bus. As someone whose family has been deeply impacted by cancer, this was a very special opportunity. You can learn more about their mission and how to help them serve people battling cancer at thejoybusdiner.com. #thejoybus”

On September 30, 2022, the Mayor, with members of the Phoenix Fire Department, signed a proclamation declaring September Fall Prevention Month. This is an important public awareness initiative to keep individuals, especially senior citizens safe.
Below is the six-step chart released by the Arizona Falls Prevention Coalition that outlines ways to help prevent falls.
Mayor Gallego posted:
As you age, serious injuries from a fall increase. I’m proclaiming September #FallsPreventionAwarenessMonth. These six steps are a better start to safety. Thank you Jeff Case and Reda Riddle-Bigler @PHXFire for working hard to make seniors safer! pic.twitter.com/0YCks6zfTJ
