Coconino County Democratic Party’s annual Monsoon Picnic

Sunday, September 16, 10:30 a.m.: Coconino County Democratic Party’s annual Monsoon Picnic, at the County Fairgrounds (Maricopa Ramada), 2446 Fort Tuthill Loop, Flagstaff. A business meeting for PCs will begin promptly at 10:30 and conclude before 11 a.m. The public portion of the event will begin at 11 a.m. with food and candidate speeches. This is a potluck with the party providing pulled pork sandwiches, veggie burgers, hot dogs, buns, and drinks. We ask that those whose last names begin with A-M bring a salad or side dish and those whose last names begin with N-Z bring a dessert. (Bring reusable plates and utensils if you can. Friday, October 12 – Sunday, October 14: Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake. Tempe Sister City holds its annual Tempe Oktoberfest as a fundraiser for its student and teacher exchange program. At the three day Oktoberfest, you will find a carnival, dachshund runs (Sunday) and a 5 Mile / 5K / 1 mile race (Saturday) in addition to German food, beer & wine gardens and live music. 15 german beers and three stages of live music! Kinderfest with craft zone and carnival amusements for kids. Six hours of polka music on Sunday. Eight 4 oz. samples of German beer will also be served from noon – 6 for just $20. Admission is free. All day pass for kids amusements is $30. Tempe Beach Splash Park will also reopen for the weekend. Cash is needed to purchase tickets for food and beverages. Family pricing during the day on Saturday and Sunday is 25 food/activity tickets for $20.

Tucson Meet Yourself

Friday, October 12 – Sunday, October 14: Tucson Meet Yourself, at slightly new location this year, occupying 4 city blocks and Jacomé Plaza, in front of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, downtown Tucson. 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sun. Southern Arizona’s diverse folk and ethnic communities are celebrated with performances and demonstrations, food vendors, and more at this family-friendly festival in downtown Tucson. Admission: Free for spectators.

Saturday, October 13 – Sunday, October 14: Butterfield Overland Stage Days & Rodeo – City of Benson. The two day Butterfield Rodeo will be held at the Arena Bar and Rodeo Grounds, 250 N. Prickly Pear.

Sunday, November 4, 4:00 p.m.: All Souls Procession, Downtown Tucson (Procession route TBA). More than 150,000 people gather downtown, some in costume, some carrying memorials or altars to celebrate, mourn and reflect on those who have died. The group walks about two miles together to watch a finale that includes performances by Flam Chen and the burning of a giant urn. Live music, dancers, entertainment. Event is free to attend.

Friday, November 9 – Sunday, November 11: 100th Anniversary of the End of WWI, International Veterans Day Ceremonies.

Sunday, November 11: Centennial of Armistice Day (now Veterans Day) – the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War took effect at the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918.

Sunday, November 11, 10:00 a.m. ET: Commemorative Ceremony for 100th Anniversary of the Armistice at National Cathedral. The National Cathedral in Washington D.C. will be the home of the largest commemoration of the end of the First World War in the former Allied Powers. Hundreds of major members of he governments and armed forces of the nations that composed the Allies in World War One will honor the lives of the millions of fallen men and women, and recognize the significance of the conflict, as well as how vital it is to prevent such a horrible conflict from ever happening again. The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. will hold a bell ringing ceremony at 11 am on Sunday, Nov. 11th, 2018 to commemorate the centennial of the Armistice. Local churches, schools, courthouses, and other entities are invited to participate at the time of this nationwide occasion at each respected time zone.

Saturday, November 17, 7:00 a.m.: El Tour de Tucson. Sign up now to ride, or go cheer on your favorite cyclist as they circle the perimeter of the city.
