Moveon.org has joined with Chris Bowers of MyDD.com to push safe incumbents to open their warchests to fund newly competitive districts.
The chief target for this effort in Arizona is Ed Pastor. He has only token Republican opposition, in the form of the risable perennial candidate Don Karg, and has over a million bucks in the bank. He is also behind on his DCCC dues. Pastor chairs the Hispanic caucus and is protesting lack of support by the DCCC for Hispanic challengers. Well and fine. Protest all you want, Ed, but right now we have a fight on our hands and an incredible opportunity. We want a third of your kitty.
Call Ed at 602-604-0909 or 202-225-4065 and ask him to pay it forward. Specifically, we want 30% of his warchest given to the DCCC for emergency funding of newly competitive races. Be polite, but don’t accept the "we gave at the office" excuse.

I certainly agree that he should give whatever money he has to help other Democrats who need some help. To me, that’s a no-brainer. Why in hell do we have to tell these people to loosen up and give money they don’t need for their campaigns? Having said that, it is absolutely obscene the amount of money going on Congressional races! Does anyone here know what the aggregate total is? By aggregate total I am including what all parties and candidates are spending on this election. Translate that sum into money that could be used to feed hungry children, provide a better life for elderly and reduce the poverty level – it boggles the mind!
Frankly, I believe that one of the first priorities of a new, Democratic-dominated Congress should be to find a way to wring the big bucks out of politics! It disgusts me!!!
