Why do all the media villagers keep repeating Jan Brewer's version of the facts that Obama was "testy" when sh is the only person present who continues to make this claim, and two others have flatly denied it?
Out of the three officials who met President Obama on an airport tarmac near Phoenix earlier this week, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) is now the only one who has characterized the president as anything other than cordial.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, who was standing just feet away from the president and the governor on Wednesday during their now-infamous encounter, told TPM that Obama seemed calm the whole time.
“He wasn’t tense at all,” Stanton said on Friday. “The guy’s a pro.”
And previously:
Mayor Scott Smith of Mesa, Ariz., declined to say exactly what he heard Obama and Brewer talk about during their now-infamous tiff next to Air Force One.
But the mayor said he was standing right next to the governor when the exchange took place and Obama didn’t seem to be in any kind of hurry to leave.
“There was no sense that he was running to or from anything,” Smith told TPM. In fact, he said, the president stayed and had a pleasant conversation with Smith, who’s a Republican, and Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, a Democrat.
It was “just the four of us,” Smith said. “Mayor Stanton and I had a decent talk with him.”
I expect Jan Brewer to keep spinning her FAUX News Fraudcasting talking points, but why are all the media villagers creating an echo chamber for her false story when two eye-witnesses to the converstation directly contradict Jan Brewer? I know that Howard Fischer will spin only Jan Brewer's version of the facts, but do all the media villagers have to perpetuate her lies?
It's good to be Queen i guess.
UPDATE: Elon Green writes at the Political Animal blog, When the Legend Becomes Fact, Print the Legend:
Why do I bother pointing this out? Particularly during Presidential campaigns, this nonsense so easily metastasizes into a factoid, Norman Mailer’s term for “an item of unreliable information that is repeated so often that it becomes accepted as fact.”
His example is the Al Gore "I invented the Internet" mockery of Al Gore. Although Gore never said it, the nedia villagers repeated this incessantly.
Of course, none of this was true. But thanks in no small part to an unquestioning press — voters swallowed it whole.
