Quick legislative update – March 16

…According to one source, Senate Democratic leader Jorge Luis Garcia, it doesn't look as if the Rs have the votes to pass special session SCR1001, a ballot referral to end the First Things First early childhood healthcare and education mandated by the voters.  The situation is fluid, so it may change by the time the floor session begins.

…Is there a payday loan place open in AZ today?  It seems as if every single person who works in a legalized loan sharking operation is at the Capitol today, showing support for the attempt by Russell Pearce to amend an otherwise harmless bill into a reauthorizaton of the payday loan statute.  The hearing room is already packed and overflow seating has been opened, and the hearing isn't scheduled to start for more than 30 minutes.
