Quick Takes

H/t to Greg Sargent at the Washington Post's Plum Line for these news items I do not have time this holiday weekend to go into in depth:

* The White House Council of Economic Advisers released a report on Friday finding that the stimulus hiked GDP by as much as 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2011 and added up to 3.6 million jobs. [The stimulus did work].

* Hedge fund Barton Biggs says we need a massive infusion of government stimulus spending to save the economy. (WSJ)

Bruce Bartlett has the most extensive rundown I’ve ever seen of all this year’s polling on what Americans really think about tax increases [they overwhelmingly support raising taxes on the wealthy].

* Chuck Schumer to fellow Senate Dems: Forget about the Constitutional/nuclear option on the debt ceiling [14th Amendment], it’s not gonna happen this time.

* Ezra Klein: We don’t really have a deficit problem. We have a Congress problem.
