Rare Beast Sighted at Arizona Legislature: Actual Legislation Everyone Can Support!

As rare of hen’s teeth and as powerful as Bigfoot on a bender, we have sighted that rarest of legislative species under GOP control: good legislation that simply makes reasonable public policy!

SB1037, sponsored by Senator Shope, does something simple that helps people, saves the state money, and simply makes sense: it extends AHCCCS coverage for basic preventive and comprehensive dental care for up to $1000 per year. That means that AHCCCS members could now get simple things like a filling or an annual or semi-annual cleaning covered for the first time. That helps avoid delaying care and reduces likelihood of catastrophic care later due to neglect.

Call your state legislative delegation and let them know that SB1037 is the sort of thing we want to be much less rarely sighted: common sense good public policy.

  1. So this has Regina Cobb’s fingerprints all over it. But they were opposed to extending services for hygienists in dental service deserts. But the right thing finished is good in the long term.

  2. I can already hear the right wing objections.

Do poor people really need teeth? Can’t they just eat oatmeal and mashed bananas?
