Arizona billionaires and corporations did not need more tax cuts in the federal Big Billionaires First Bill.
They definitely did not need the one, JD Mesnard’s Trump-mimicking SB1106, that Arizona Legislative Republicans rammed through the State Capitol earlier today.
The state’s oligarchs, plutocrats, and corporate greedsters have already reaped the benefits of budgetary ill-advised state enacted tax cuts and the welfare for the rich Empowerment Scholarship Private School Voucher program.
Why will Republicans in Arizona and across the country start working for the 98 percent?

Reacting to the prospects of the Republicans ‘Let’s do the Big Billionaires First Bill at the State Level’, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, probably while in the process of dusting off her veto pen, said:
“The Republican majority in the legislature is hell-bent on giving handouts to the wealthiest Arizonans while hiking taxes on working seniors. Their proposal gives hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks to special interests, removes a tax cut for working seniors, and adds even more handouts to those who are already rich. If Republicans want to give a billion-dollar tax break for the wealthy, they must show the people of Arizona how they will pay for it without slashing the vital services our constituents rely on. We need tax cuts for middle-class families now.”

Democratic Senate Leader Priya Sundareshan commented to the Blog of Arizona:
“SB1106 is being sold as tax relief, but when you strip away the talking points, it’s a rushed and unbalanced bill that favors the wealthy while putting schools, healthcare, and working families at risk. That’s why every Senate Democrat voted no. We are ready to negotiate a bipartisan tax package that delivers real relief without gutting the services Arizonans rely on and delivering An Arizona We Can Afford.”
Arizona Senate Democrats also released the below joint post that read:
“What happens when you put 17 Republicans in a room? You get $1.1 billion tax plan that looks good on Instagram but favors corporations and the wealthy while threatening education, healthcare, and essential services. Democrats support tax relief for Arizona’s working-class individuals and families, but we do not support a rushed, unbalanced bill that will make life harder for everyday Arizonans.”
Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos issued several posts offering his strong objections to the Republican tax-cut legislation including:
House Democrats also released two social media infomercials, one in English with Quanta Crews and Seth Blattman, and the other in Spanish starring Marianna Sandoval and Elda Luna-Najera.
Each posting highlights how reckless the Republican tax cuts are and how they could threaten funding for education, health care, and other vital state services.
