Recall Effort Launches to Oust Insurrectionist Rep. Mark Finchem

As a deadly mob descended on the US Capitol on Jan. 6, Arizona Rep. Mark Finchem was there, cheering on the terrorists and sending out photos. For his seditious, anti-America actions, a vigorous campaign has launched to recall Republican Finchem (LD11).

Details of the non-partisan recall are online at Finchemrecall.com. The official email address for the effort is  FinchemRecall@gmail.com

Ralph Atchue, Chair of the Finchem Recall Committee, said the group will enlist the support of moderate Republicans and Democrats both, in a non-partisan effort to get rid of Arizona’s Worst Legislator: Mark Finchem is Bad for Schools, Women, and Veterans

From Twitter

Finchem is a former cop who has abandoned his duty to his country. He belongs to the “Oath Keepers,” a right-wing militia. A supercilious dandy, he wears a black cowboy hat with a “Colonel Sanders” tie, even though he’s from Michigan.

Finchem Spread Scary Claims while Bonding with Indicted Steve Bannon and spread lies about the election of Joe Biden.

“I’ll be setting up a closed Facebook page soon,” said Atchue, who is Chair of the Democrats of Casa Grande. “We will also set up Zoom meetings to keep everyone in the loop.”
“Additionally, I want to stress to each of you that this will be a very difficult but achievable undertaking. We must have the full support of everyone — sitting back and hoping others will get the job done is not going to be nearly enough.”
He called on supporters to:
  • Make a donation. “It’s going to take a hefty sum to be effective,” Atchue said.
  • Take a leadership position with the effort — coordinating volunteer work, media contact, treasurer, etc.
  • Volunteer to collect petition signatures. (With COVID restrictions, this process will require safety strategies.)
  • Contact voters via phone banking or text messaging.
  • Contact “friendly” businesses asking them for signature gathering in front and/or posting of a Finchem Recall Poster in their window
  • Contact organizations you belong to that would be supportive of our effort.
  • Contact personal contacts to enlist others to the cause.
“We’ve got to have many individuals step up for all of these absolutely crucial needs.  There’s no sense in beginning without that commitment upfront,” he said.
“Once we pull that trigger, the 120-day clock for petition signature gathering begins.” Atchue estimated that the petitions will need 25,000 to 30,000 signatures.
Strip Finchem
In a parallel effort, the Executive Board of Legislative District 11 Democratic Party called on leaders of the Arizona Legislature to oust Finchem now:
“Pursuant to the U.S. Constitution: Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment disqualifies an individual from serving as a state or federal official if that person has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the United States.

We, the Executive Board of the Legislative District 11 Democratic Party, formally request that LD11 Representative Mark Finchem be stripped of all AZ State House leadership and committee positions effective immediately. We further request that the House begin the process of expelling Rep. Finchem from his elected position.

Rep. Finchem was in attendance at the January 6th attempt to overthrow the government of the United States. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell accurately described the violent attack on the Capital as an insurrection. During the deadly and destructive invasion, Rep. Finchem tweeted encouragement to the insurrectionists and justification for their actions. Incitement of insurrection is equal to direct participation in the act of insurrection.

This request is made in order to prevent Rep. Finchem from being able to pursue any actions that might precipitate and encourage another violent act against our nation. As Rep. Finchem’s Tweet implies he favors violent recourse to election results with which he disagrees. Therefore, he must be considered a clear and present danger. Ignoring his participation will amount to tacit approval of his actions.

Be aware that a formal recall of Rep. Finchem is underway. We believe that the AZ State House of Representatives must take immediate and unambiguous action in light of what must be considered Rep. Finchem’s participation in and incitement of sedition and insurrection against the United States of America. It is time to put our nation and democracy above party and political expediency.”

The letter was sent to House Speaker R. Bowers, Majority Leader B. Toma, Majority Whip L. Biasiucci, Speaker Pro-Temp T. Grantham, Minority Leader R. Bolding, Asst. Minority Leader J. Longdon, and Minority Whip D. DeGrazia
