Fresh off being named the Chairperson of the Progressive Task Force on Lowering Costs, rising Democratic Congressional Star Arizona CD Three Representative Yassamin Ansari has launched an affordability tour across Arizona starting July 26 in Scottsdale and then continuing on July 29 in Flagstaff, August 2 in Tucson, and August 3 in Phoenix.
Commenting on her new position and the importance of stressing to Arizonans and the American People that Democrats are dedicated to making lives better and affordable for the working and middle class, Representative Ansari posted:
“Working people are getting screwed, and they are asking for a transformational vision for the future and a world where they have autonomy over their lives.”
Speaking to reporters, she emphasized a strategy to produce policy proposals that could pass a Democratically controlled House, saying:
“Our shared goal is very simple: Delivering real results for the American People. In my home state of Arizona, people are being crushed by the rising costs of rent and housing, the inaccessibility and lack of ability to afford basic energy costs like air conditioning in the extreme heat, the crushing everyday costs of education, child care, elder care, and simply commuting.”
“And we know it is not just in Arizona. Working families across our nation are asking. They are begging for solutions…”
“My colleagues and I will put the focus back on actually lowering costs and ensuring that families can make ends meet without having to choose between essential needs.”
“Since Donald Trump took office, we have seen this Administration and Congressional Republicans quickly and systematically dismantle the progress that we have worked so hard to achieve. Donald Trump ran on a campaign of lowering costs for the American People and he has done just the opposite…He has done nothing to fulfill those promises.”
“Instead, Republicans are making it harder and harder for working families to get by, gutting the Department of Education, withholding $6.8 billion from our schools, leaving our students and our teachers struggling. Kicking 17 million people off health care while driving up premiums, deductibles, and co pays for millions more. Cutting safety nets for families with the largest cuts to nutritional assistance in American History. This is not progress. It’s cruelty.”
“And the only people seeing so called cost cuts are billionaIres who are benefiting and filing their tax returns.”
“…We will focus on delivering bold policies that will help working families and we will have bills ready to pass when Democrats take back the majority in 2026.”
While Representative Ansari is fast working on her Affordability Tour, she was dealt a set back in her Congressional oversight role when she was notified she would not be allowed access to the ICE Eloy Detention Center despite conforming with Homeland Security’s (DHS) illegal request to provide 72 hours notice of her visit.
This is undoubtedly petty retribution by DHS for the Representative’s unannounced visit to that same facility last May.
Commenting on the denial in a press release, Representative Ansari stated:
“Even after the Trump Administration put in place phony new guidance to make it more difficult for Members of Congress to do our oversight work, I followed their news rules. My office gave them a seven-day notice of my visit and privacy release forms of constituents I hoped to meet with. They let us know the visit was approved, but less than 24 hours before I was set to make the trip, they changed their minds with no explanation.”
Please watch below the Congresswoman explain people’s rights with regard to ICE and how Congressional members can assist.
Makes one wonder what are they hiding in Eloy.
Newsflash: Nothing good if the results of the Representative’s May visit is any indication.
Representative Ansari and other Congressional members should sue to get these illegal DHS guidelines rescinded.
The people in these facilities have rights.
We should not be a nation where concentration camps and modern day Andersonvilles are allowed to be built.
