Ron Gould Shotguns Civility

By Michael Bryan

Senator-Ron-GouldRon Gould, candidate for the GOP nomination for Arizona's Congressional District 4, drinks deeply from the "2nd Amendment remedies" well, proving conclusively that he hasn't any actual ideas, only a ball of undefined rage which needs to be directed through the barrel of a gun.

Gould's latest ad features him toting a shotgun around the border (presumably hunting for them durned 'illegals') and then demonstrating his opinion of "government run health care" by shooting a copy of the Affordable Care Act, then smirking the exit line, "Because Washington needs a straight shooter." The double entendre – suggesting that we need to send someone to Washington to shoot the place up (maybe some liberals? maybe the President?) – couldn't more clearly appeal to the basest eliminationist streak in right wing politics.

The gun-play by right-wing politicos is appalling and despicable. Have they learned nothing from the Tucson Massacre? Such violent calls to action have no place in American politics. Given our history of political assassinations, civil political violence, and extremist terrorism, it is deeply irresponsible for our wanna-be leaders to go around promoting themselves by shooting those things they disagree with.

The underlying message of the ad is set up in the language of the very first line: "Washington doesn't get us." Gould is building upon decades of GOP messaging that has positioned our federal government as some sort of alien, face-sucking parasite that "we" normal people should resent and reject: by sending some gun-wielding yokel to Congress to put things aright… by selling out to his corporate donors and becoming a millionaire lobbyist, presumably… ::shrug::

I understand that Americans hate the government right now – and Congress most of all. It's a dysfunctional, gridlocked, ugly, partisan, hell-mouth with an approval rating somewhere below that of pedophiles.

What made it that way? The deluge of special interest money politicians have become dependent on to browbeat and hoodwink the public into voting for them (which in GOP terms are always unions and public employees, never the mega-corps whom they fellate with policy favors in return for campaign cash – no, those are sacrosanct "job creators" who must be appeased like Olympian Gods in order to bestow the benefices of wage slavery on we mere mortals), the extreme ideological intensity (which was instituted by Gingrich and fanned into a conflagration of spittle-flecked rabidity most recently by the Billionaire-backed Tea Party movement), and the inability to address major problems (see special interest money deeply committed to ensuring the status quo, or worse…).

Yes, Americans have plenty to dislike about Congress. And much of it stems from madly auditioning corporate shills and wanna-be sellouts like Gould, who have turned representative government into a twisted, populist, id-tickling, performance art designed to translate hatred and fear into votes for poseurs like Gould, who are more than happy to sell their constituents into slavery to the corporate-fascist vulture capitalists paying for the performance.

Mr. Gould, you may have the perfect right to say and do such juvenile and disturbing things, but you should demonstrate that you can recognize when you have gone to far by pulling this ad.

Watch the obnoxious Gould and and his ghoulish ad after the click…

  1. At least I own a penis, unlike yourself.

Does the thought of a firearm give you a case of the vapors and have you clutching your pearls while you fall onto the fainting couch?

It must suck being such a fucking pussy.

  2. Looked at your profile picture, Bill. It is clear that you have a very small penis. How do you like ad hominem attacks, dick cheese? Please fuck off.

  3. How long has Michael Bryan been a bedwetting day lady? For Christ’s sake, it’s an ad. With guns. Try not to crap your pants, you pussy.

  4. Don’t normal people leave Arizona in the summer? It’s 67 here on Long Island right now.

Nobody can make Phoenix tolerable in July. The smart people, whether they’re h.s. grads who can fix a broken A/C or Harvard Ph.D.’s, leave town.

  5. These are people that have used violent rhetoric and/or fear to incite others. You may not know how all of them are,but they all fit this profile…you can look them up yourself.

Karl Gharst,Matt Hale,April Gaede,Mike Vaderboegh,Ann Coulter,Ted Nugent,Michael savage,Pat Buchanan, Pam Geller, any teaparty person,Mort Konrackes,Thomas Sowell,Alan Hevesi, Lee Rodgers, Melanie Morgan,Brian Sussman,Neal Boortz,Eric Bolling,Roger Ailes, Randall Terry,Erik Erikson,Scott Roeder, John Patrick Beddell,Justin Haynes,Byron Williams, Joe Walsh,Paul Babeu, militia groups, hate groups, white supremacists,Robert Jeffress, Kenneth Kimbley, Bill O’Reilly, Brian Kilmeade, Walid Shoebot, Newt Gingrich, Pam Geller,Franklin Graham, Michael Graham, Terry Jones,Matt Drudge,Rupert Murdoch, Richard Mellon Scaife, Brian Brown, Tony Perkins,Ralph Peters,Steve Doocy,Bo Dietl, Shaun Hannity, Mike Rosen, Dick Morris, Liz Trotta, Joe Scarborough, Mike Barnicle, Gregory Guisti, Hutaree militia, Bob Owens, William Donohue,Erik Rush,Davis Asman, Mark Levin, Lou Dobbs, Peter King, Michelle Bachmann, Rand/Ron Paul,Allen West,Westboro Baptist “church”, Rush Limbaugh, Joe Arpiao,Shawna Forte, Minuteman militia,Bryon Fischer, Russell Pearce,JT Ready,Sarah Palin, Glenn BEck, Michelle Malkin,Bruce Bower, Jay Townsend, Steve Smith, Curtis Knapp, Charles Krauthammer,Anders Breivik, neo naziz, Rick Santorum, Walter Nickless Jerry Falwell.

I think that’s more than enough hate, ignorance, and violent rhetoric to go around, don’t you?

  6. If it were up to me to commend a high school graduate who can fix a broken air conditioner or some guy with a fancy college education (NTTIAWWT) I’ll pick the high school graduate any time. One can make Phoenix, Arizona in July a tolerable place, the other can’t.

Of course the real issue is “Will Ron Gould morph into one more generic Republican if elected?” What the US really needs is a government that stops wasting money on overseas occupations. So far I have no reason to think that Gould has any concern about that.

  7. Actually, the list was SO long, that this site timed me out. Never happened to me before.I’ll try to get back to you later.

  8. And for you:

Shockingly, this map covers only the past two years or so. I’m sure it represents just a small portion of what is actually happening.

How sad that a political candidate is so lacking in qualifications for public office that he has to resort to this sort of garbage to get elected. Even sadder that people are stupid enough to vote for him.

  9. “because I will be able to plaster entire pages of examples of wingnuts behaving badly!”

Don’t talk about it Cheri, DO IT!

  10. Did you notice the t-shirt he was wearing in the commercial said “ACDL”. I believe it represents the Arizona Citizens Defense League. Here is a blurb from their website:

The Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) is a non-profit, all volunteer, non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to the principles contained in Article II, Section 2 of the Arizona Constitution that “All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.” The rights of self-defense and bearing arms are the foundation for all other rights. Our freedom of speech, our freedom from unreasonable searches, our rights against self-incrimination, our right to bear arms, all of our fundamental rights only exist because we stand firmly resolved to preserve them. The AzCDL exists to strengthen that resolve.

  11. Wouldn’t put it beyond any of Walker’s toadies or other pot stirrers to pull this stuff and scream “Oooo, those evil libbies!”

  12. The fact is, that most people rage against something they know nothing about. First off, it’s not “govt. run” anything. If anything, I’d call it “corporate run” since we’re talking about private insurance companies here…Govt.run, would be like the VA. Got a problem with that, because most people are happy and grateful to have such great care.
So no, you shouldn’t “shoot it up” you should READ IT!

By the way, wonder if Mr. Gould would be willing to forgo the healthcare that would be provided him by the taxpayers of this state/country were he to (god forbid) win this seat? Bet not.

  13. First off, what in God’s green earth makes you think for one minute that threats against another human being should be condoned by anyone? It’s wrong FOR ANYONE to do that. That said, please don’t even act all high and mighty. VOLUMES could be filled of RW attacks, threats and otherwise ugly incidents against anyone that doesn’t think, act, look, practice a particular religion, etc.Don’t act all innocent, because I will be able to plaster entire pages of examples of wingnuts behaving badly! Next.
