Russell Pearce’s Latest Plot Against Arizona

So now Mr. Russell “SB1070” Pearce is flogging a new resolution for adoption by the AZGOP in his latest scheme to undermine and defund public education in Arizona. Seriously, how does one call oneself a ‘conservative’ with a straight face when attacking a venerable institution of American life that has served us well for over a 100 years? Seriously. HOW?

Here’s the proposed text:

“End Government Monoply Of Our Schools And Support Parental Rights

• WHEREAS, America must have great schools and teachers to survive, we must end the public school monopoly. It makes sense for education funds to follow the kids, so parents can choose the best school for their children, and
• WHEREAS, as long as unions and bureaucrats control the money, they control the agenda, parents must be in charge of their money and their children, and
• WHEREAS, 100 percent school choice for parents, thousands great schools will be created and existing good schools will improve, but we will not save the Republic unless we end the Public School Monopoly, and
• WHEREAS, CRT, mask and vaccine cover up the legitimate reasons we must end the public school monopoly. For generations, our public schools have demanded more money while performance declines, and
• WHEREAS, to end the abuse, we must attend school board meeting, elect state legislator(s) who support ending the public school monopoly, and
• WHEREAS, government school monopoly is an absolute failure and it’s time to return control to the Parents and that means their money goes with their child, where they choose, and
• WHEREAS, Democrat controlled DOJ threatens parents who speak up for their children as terrorist, parents are intimidated, racist curriculum (CRT), girls are not safe as it appears to be a partisan issue. Democrats push to allow boys to use girl’s restrooms and locker area, and
• THEREFORE, The Arizona Republican Party stands with parent’s right to choose what is best and safest for their children and where to send their money.”

So, the AZGQP’s decades-long hard-on to defund and destroy public education for our kids takes yet another step toward the complete privatization of education under the guise of ‘100% school choice for parents’.

What most parents want is a quality, free, and safe public school where they can send their children to be well-educated to rigorous professional standards by dedicated and fairly compensated public servants in a system overseen by democratically elected officials so that their kids can compete and thrive in the real world, not a shady unregulated and unaccountable, union-busting, for-profit racket that will squeeze as much profit from their child as possible while providing as little actual education as they can get away with. Our system of public schools has worked well for over a hundred years, propelling America to the forefront of the arts, sciences, industry, and technology: these yahoos want to wreck all that.

Of course, unspoken beneath this facade of faux-populism is the desire to give the wealthy the ability to entrench themselves over the generations by only allowing the children of the wealthy to access the best education. Scratch a Republican these days and you will find a neo-feudalist wanna-be oligarch lucking beneath the surface.

The AZGOP have done their level best to defund and undermine public education in Arizona for decades now in a bold and brazen attack on our Arizona Constitution’s progressive educational guarantees and protections. They know that a well-educated populace is one that will not vote for their destructive and regressive policies. The likelihood of voting Republican is strongly negatively correlated with educational achievement, and they know it.

Now the next phase in the GOP’s campaign to destroy America from within begins: using the struggles and handicapping of our public schools they themselves imposed to try to end public education altogether.

The charter school fly-by-nights and profiteers among them are salivating to get their grubby mitts on the billions in public money we spend on public schools. They want to launder our taxes into their own pockets, and ‘parental choice’, ‘CRT’ racist appeals, and COVIDiocy are the stalking-horses the intend to ride to victory.
