SB1070 Update: San Diego School board condemns SB1070

by David Safier

All_arizona_sm Originally the resolution by the San Diego school board was going to include a travel warning. After all, "About 44 percent [of the students] are Hispanic and 75 percent are ethnic minorities." Those foolish kids sometimes forget to carry their papers when they go out, and without papers, who can tell a legal non-white kid from an illegal non-white kid?

Stopping short of warning students against travel to Arizona, the San Diego school board on Tuesday passed a resolution condemning the state’s new immigration law as unconstitutional.

At a later time, the district plans to look into restricting participation in conferences in Arizona.

Some people say it's not a school district's place to get involved in an issue like this. But I would point out, districts, especially out of state districts, rarely do this kind of thing. But, like the poster says, "We are all Arizona." Silence is assent. The more people and groups speaking out against the bill, the better for Arizona and the country.
