Sean Arce’s contract not renewed

Not much to say. Another domino has fallen.

After listening to hours of impassioned, sometimes eloquent testimonies to the value of the MAS program and Sean Arce, the Board voted not to renew Arce's contract. It was 3-2, with Adelita Grijalva and Alex Sugiyama voting for renewal (I don't know the back story of Sugiyama's vote. He's the quiet guy on the Board).

I'm guessing none of the Board members who have been voting against the MAS program, not to mention Pedicone and his administrative supporters, imagined this fight would still be raging. They chose what they thought was the path of lesser resistance — bucking the Tucson community rather than fighting city hall the state Republican establishment. But the resistance, if anything, has increased. A school district with a preexisting credibility problem as an educational institution has dug itself in deeper.
