Sen. Jon Kyl tries to scrub congressional record – it never happened

The thing that amazes me the most about Arizona's twin embarassments, Sen. Obstruction, Jon Kyl, and Sen. McNasty, John McCain, is that they seem to be totally unaware that there is such a thing as sound recordings and video recordings — since Thomas Edison — let alone modern electronic media like YouTube. They both think they can say whatever they want and never get called out for what they have said.

Sen. Jon Kyl has had a very bad week being mocked mercilessly by Stephen Colbert and other comics for saying "his remark was not intended to be a factual statement" defense to his whopper of a lie about Planned Parenthood last Friday. So now this tool is trying to scrub the congressional record to make it appear as if it never happened.

Barbara Morrill at Daily Kos reports  Kyl revises Congressional Record to omit 'well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does' is abortion:

Last Friday, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) stood on floor of the United States Senate and lied through his teeth, saying:

If you want an abortion you go to Planned Parenthood and that's well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does.

But today, if you go to the pages of the Congressional Record, it's as if it never happened:

If you want an abortion you go to Planned Parenthood and that is what Planned Parenthood does.

That's right. Taking advantage of the senate prerogative to "revise and extend their remarks," Kyl scrubbed the blatant lie he told about Planned Parenthood, leaving that much more benign quote to be enshrined forevermore in the Congressional Record.

Sadly for Mr. Kyl, that senate privilege doesn't extend to YouTube.

* * *

And so a game of half-assed damage control begins. Scrub the Congressional Record, make a claim that he "misspoke," and blame his press person for the rest, and pretend he didn't knowingly lie on the floor of the United States Senate to promote his extremist ideology.

Just go now. Don't make us wait until January 2013.
