Arizona Legislative District (LD) Democratic incumbents and candidates have been feverishly working to get their message across to voters in their local areas.
LD Four Senator Christine Marsh and LD Two State Representative (and Senate Candidate) Judy Schwiebert have released new ads highlighting their strengths, what issues they are fighting for, and their opponents extremist positions.
LD 17 House Candidate Kevin Volk just finished an impressive door to door canvassing campaign that saw him reach 5,000 residents knocked.
In the Marsh ad, a constitutent blasts Republican Carine Werner for her election denying extremism and ant-reproductve stance, even in the case of rape and incest.
Senator Marsh then appears and says of Werner’s position “Not on my watch.”
Citing her recognition as the 2016 Teacher of the Year, Senator Marsh went on to say:
“It’s tough for families today and I am fighting to make our community safer, fully fund our public schools and fully ensure women make their own reproductive decisons. If we do that, we all win.”
The Schwiebert ad is a little more creative at the beginning of its ad with someone looking up the definition of extreme in a dictionary and there is a picture of Ms. Schwiebert’s opponent Shawnna Bolick next to it that says “Furthest from the center. Excessive.”
The constituent in this ad proceeds to highlight Bolicks support of legislation that would charge a woman with murder if she has an abortion, saying “That sure sounds extreme.”
The ad then shifts to Senate Candidate Schweibert’s voice reading the definition of the term moderate which is “Calm, reasonable.”
Representative Schweibert appears and says “That’s me.”
She proceeds to say, that as a legislator, she has “Worked to tackle rising prices, fully fund our schools, and secure our border. Now I’m running for State Senate to finish the job. That’s how I define service.“
Commenting on the two ads in an ADLCC press release, Executive Director Elsa O’Callaghan wrote:
“Voters have a choice between continuing the reign of extremism Republicans have prioritized over Arizonans’ freedoms – or they can vote for common sense leaders like Rep. Schwiebert and Senator Marsh. Marsh and Schwiebert are experienced, dedicated, and strong leaders who always put their communities first. Our investment today is just one of many ways we’re making sure voters learn the truth and in fewer than 10 days, Arizona voters will decide.”
In LD 17, House Candidate Kevin Volk has knocked on doors in all 65 district precincts over the last month including a single day drive across the district which includes all or parts of Vail, Rita Ranch, East Tucson, Tanque Verde, Mt. Lemmon, Saddlebrooke, Catalina, Oro Valley, Dove Mountain, Marana, and Picture Rocks.
Commenting on his outreach efforts, Mr. Volk, the biggest receipent of campaign contributions for a LD House Candidate, stated:
“The current representatives take this district for granted– I’ve been to every corner of it this year, talking to voters directly about their concerns and how I can make a difference as their representative. We’ve gotten great reception, including from independents and Republicans who want to get the focus back on public service. With more than a month until Election Day, our work is far from over—we’ve got more folks to win over.”
