UPDATED: Shame on Hispanic Chamber for Giving Ciscomani “Public Servant Award”

Last night the quasi-Republican Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce plopped a ‘public servant award’ on Congressman Juan Ciscomani. He did not deserve this award, because he’s ignored the will of the people in CD6.

Ciscomani is a guy who ran for office saying, “I’m living the American Dream,” using his many children as political props, while voting against the American Dream for anyone else. Because he has voted full-on MAGA in the US House, he has not represented the voters of Congressional District 6. He votes more than 90% of the time the same as MAGA crank Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Tickets to last night’s event at Casino Del Sol were a whopping $175 each. Ciscomani used to be the membership director and VP of outreach of the Hispanic Chamber, so he had an inside advantage.

The Hispanic Chamber has also produced anti-consumer Lea Marquez Peterson, who used her role as chamber President to get an appointment to the Arizona Corporation Commission. Peterson is a business “leader” famous for going broke – she had filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy to unload $3.2 million in debt, tax liens, and a judgment.

Juan Ciscomaga, as he’s known:

Juan Ciscomani, MAGA Congressman in CD6.
  • Supports the impeachment of President Biden.
  • Voted one, two and three times for MAGA destructionist Jim Jordan for House Speaker. Then he voted for Christian nationalist, anti-abortion LGBTQ-hater Mike Johnson! The Tucson Sentinel wrote, “Ciscomani cannot be trusted to side with the U.S. Constitution when the time comes and the pressure mounts.”
  • Supports a national ban on abortion. He cheered the ruling striking down the constitutional right to an abortion.
  • Sat on the board of directors of the radical Torch of Freedom Foundation, which ran “biblical citizenship” classes and trained children as young as 11 in how to use handguns.
  • Supports discrimination against LGBTQ citizens.
  • Promised to fight against “any infringement” on gun rights.
  • Voted to cut Medicaid, housing assistance programs and Veterans Admin funding.
  • Advocated for educational vouchers over funding public schools when he worked for ex-Governor Doug Ducey.

No stranger to politics, the Hispanic Chamber has supported many regressive and right-wing projects.

  • Backing the Rosemont mining project, which was opposed by the Green Valley Council, Pima County, Santa Cruz County, the City of Tucson, and Native American organizations
  • Backing the sale of a city-owned golf course to Grand Canyon University, for a private Christian campus.
  • Calling to outsource city functions to private companies, including the transportation department, building maintenance, Kidco, the operation of recreation centers and park maintenance.

And now, it has added another plop of disgrace onto itself by giving an award to Ciscomaga.

Ciscomani: Guilty by Association

District 6 U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani did not have to vote for Mike Johnson for Speaker of the House.  He could have said “present.”  He also voted for Jim Jorden so his support and subservience to the MAGA wing of the Republican party is clear and he is complicit in their heinous and hateful agenda.

So what has Ciscomani subscribed to with his vote for MAGA Mike?

  • Denying Biden won the 2020 election and justifying any means necessary to remove him as our President including supporting a Texas lawsuit to demand other states throw out their Biden ballots and January 6th violence
  • For Christian nationalism including inserting Evangelical Christianity nonsense and patriarchy into our government.  Answers in Genesis
  • For $18 million in tax payer funding for the Noah’s Ark Encounter/Creation Museum which claims 85 kinds of dinosaurs were on the ark. They even have detailed measurements on how all 1,398 animals fit. Where did they get that?
  • Against the teaching of evolution, race and gender and for spreading related hate
  • For teaching the Bible in school as an “accurate record of history”
  • Against no-fault divorce in favor of covenant marriage which limits options for divorce to adultery, spousal felony, substance abuse, and physical or sexual abuse of spouse or child…and only after suffering for 2 years and religious counseling
  • A national ban on abortion, although Ciscomani has claimed to be for exceptions for rape, incest and health of the mother. A belief that abortion is equal to the holocaust, the cause of labor shortages and/or school shootings. For hard labor for anyone participating in abortion.
  • For government in the bedroom of consenting adults by making certain sexual positions illegal because Johnson is anti-same sex marriage and homosexuality. Religious freaks like Johnson get this from Leviticus 20:13 which says: “If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.” The fact is a man cannot have sex with a man as he does with a woman.  Duh.
  • For sneaky tweaks to Obamacare to eliminate the mandate for insurance policies to provide “essential benefits”; allow for refusing coverage to people with pre-existing conditions; no coverage for gender specific care; and less government assistance to people who can’t afford insurance
  • Absolutely no gun control since the problem isn’t the availability of weapons of mass destruction; “the problem is the human heart”. Obviously, all the people in other Western nations that don’t have our gun death rates just don’t have hearts. For protecting the 2nd Amendment at the cost of children’s lives
  • Belief climate change is caused by “natural cycles” not human actions so nothing needs to be done.

VOTE FOR KIRSTEN ENGEL

“I’ll stand up for solutions that create breathing room for middle and working-class families. That means focusing on jobs that pay well and don’t require a college education to make a middle-class living. My opponent votes to protect the oil industry’s mega-profits when Congress should be cracking down on price-gouging at the gas pump.

Arizona suffers from drought and extreme heat. I will vote to protect our precious water and speed up our transition to lower-cost clean energy. I will also stop Congress’s attacks on our reproductive rights and work to re-establish Roe v. Wade as the law of the land.
