Showing a megalomaniac the door

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

NewtNewt Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond told reporters on Wednesday that the disgraced former House Speaker — who has only won South Carolina and his home state of Georgia so far — needs to carry both Alabama and Mississippi to remain a credible candidate. The campaign later tried to walk it back, but truer words were never spoken. GOP spotlight turns to Mississippi, Alabama – CNN.com.

The former congressman from Georgia is a regional candidate of the Deep South. As I posted previously, Newt Gingrich has nowhere else he can win outside of the Deep South, leaving him only next Tuesday's primaries in Alabama and Mississippi, and if he can win there, perhaps Louisiana on March 24.

So how's Newt doing in polling ahead of next Tuesday's primaries?

Alabama

Rasmussen Reports (3/9): Gingrich 30, Santorum 29, Romney 28, Paul 7

Alabama Educ. Assoc. (3/8): Romney 31, Santorum 22, Gingrich 21, Paul 7

Capital Survey Research Center (3/7): Romney 29.9, Gingrich 24.7, Santorum 20.1, Paul 5.6

Alabama State University (3/7): Santorum 23, Romney 19, Gingrich 14, Paul (not reported)

Well, that's clear as mud.

Mississippi

There has not been a poll in Mississippi since last November (unless one is currently in the field).

UPDATE: Speak of the devil! American Research Group today: Gingrich 35, Romney 31, Santorum 20, Paul 7.

UPDATE: Rasmussen Reports today: Romney 35, Santorum 27, Gingrich 27, Paul 9.

So who the hell knows?

In any event, if Newt Gingrich cannot win in the only states in which he conceivably has a chance to win, this megalomaniac should be shown the door by the GOP. The only reason he is still in the race now is because of his "Big Casino" sugardaddy, Sheldon Adelson. "Big Casino" has made it clear that he prefers Gingrich or Romney as his second choice, so in effect Gingrich is running interference for Romney.

Even if Gingrich somehow wins in Alabama and Mississippi, that only leaves him perhaps Louisiana on March 24. There is no reason for him to continue campaigning after that date, other than to drain votes away from Rick "man on dog" Santorum and deliver the nomination to Willard "Mittens" Romney.

So what has Mittens promised Newt — or Sheldon Adelson – in return? What cabinet position has he offered? Perhaps an ambassadorship? A war with Iran? Reporters should be delving into these questions.

UPDATE: Public Policy Polling (3/11/12):

Alabama

Romney 31, Gingrich 30, Santorum 29, Paul 8

Mississippi

Gingrich 33, Romney 31, Santorum 27, Paul 7
