Sign a note to Gabby

by David Safier

Gg-thankyouPatricia Maisch, who got ahold of Jared Loughner's gun before he could reload on January 8, sent an email in conjunction with Mayors Against Illegal Guns, asking people to sign a card to Gabby Giffords.

Tucson's beloved Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, just announced that she is resigning her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is stepping down to focus on recovering from the injuries she sustained in the tragic shooting that devastated our community last January.

Gabby has represented our district admirably for six years, and for many of us, she has come to represent so much more. She embodies the strength, hope and perseverance that make us proud of Tucson, proud of Arizona and proud of our country.

Several of us who were there that terrible day wrote a short note thanking Gabby for her service and sharing our best wishes for her continued recovery.

Please sign our card and add your personal message to Congresswoman Giffords, and I'll make sure it gets to her.

This week, the Tucson community will lose our voice in Congress because of a single act of gun violence. This year, gun violence will rob American communities of 12,000 more of our fellow citizens – 34 people every single day.

As our elected leaders gather tonight to discuss the state of our union, I hope Gabby's warmth and passion will remind them to put aside their differences and work together to keep our communities safe.

Thank you for sharing your message with Gabby,
Patricia Maisch
