Anyhow, the Resident has given me fresh energy to worry my bone. He made a scurrilous final question comment during yesterday’s press conference claiming essentially that Democrats hate the military. He’s not alone in saying such things, that damned lie is a constant and lamentable theme of right wing pundits, but he’s the fucking President (as much as it burns my fingers to type it…) and there are just some things that are off-limits to the Commander in Chief, and claiming political ownership of the military for his party in such a nakedly partisan fashion is on that short list.
Well, I could rant and I could ratiocinate as to why what the Resident has done is cowardly, hypocritical, and dangerous to our democratic government, but I think someone else said it all very well already, as he so often does…

Does it say in the Constitution what kind of car we should drive, what kind of toilet we should use; what kind of lightbulb we should use; what kind of Air Freshener we should use; what kind of Healthcare we should have;how much carbon Dioxide we should EXHALE; how many FARTS a cow is allowed to have causing global warming?? ON AND ON including TAXES TAXES TAXES that are nowhere to be found in the Constitution!
The Constitution is more than just the Freedom of a few Jerks to spout off at the expense of the rest of us and disrupt society just for the sake of disrupting it!

On a trip to Japan and Okinawa the Top Brass would NOT even greet him at the airport!
In a trip to Afghanistan he took 300 aircraft and every tanker in the Airforce to get him there and he just went to Kabul as Osama Bin Laden was living in Southern Afghanistan and the secret service could not provide him protection!
What about the Cole; Blackhawk Down; and over ONE MILLION regular Army-Air Force _Marines – Coast Guard – Navy that were CUT from service as well as the B-1 and B-2 Bombers! We barely got 20 B-2 Bombers from a requested 100+. The 20th one was built from parts to service the other 19!!
Is this what you want a JUNK YARD DEFENSE SYSTEM of parts scavenged parts??
Just go to the D.M. Boneyard and talk to the Troops about Bill Clinton’s love for the Military; let alone Hillary and her yelling at them and the Secret Service at everything from that car is blocking my view “GET IT THE HELL OUT OF HERE” to parts falling off Air Force One and Air Force Two because of CUTS made on the spot!
I had a friend in Command and Control of Air Force One under Clinton and Bush and the stories about The Clinton’s actions on Air Force One and there stealing is yet to be told!
The Democratic Party WAS the Party of The Military but is no longer!
There are a few left overs from that time such as Robert Byrd and a few in Congress but after LBJ The Democratic Party JUMPED SHIP!
As for Keith Oberman being some kind of Journalist?? WHAT YOU MUST BE KIDDING ; HE IS A PERVERT and prays on Women for Sex than runs out of the room! There are so many Women that he seduced on the internet than went to there rooms for sex that described every THING that is to SHORT to mention on this blog!
What’s truly disgusting is the paralysis of the Democrats. The MoveOn ad is speech and is protected by the constitution. Olbermann’s comments were complete, carefully thought out and spot on!!! Where would we be without him – the only independent journalist/commentator on the TV.
What makes me crazy is the way Democrats grovel and pander to the members in the Republican party. What makes me crazy is John Warner not being willing to support the Webb amendment – you support the troops so you want to deny them the most minimal coverage – and it’s not something new – it’s part and parcel of how we treat our military. Denying them adequate home leave is what’s new.
I was beginning to think maybe the outrages of this President and the obstructionist Republicans in the Congress – especially the Senate – would tip the balance and we would get some redress of our grievances. Hah!!! Alice in Wonderland, that’s me! I am pained, disgusted and frightened by the whole thing. Someone tell Harry Reid that if they want to filibuster, let them just go ahead and do it – don’t pull the bill and move on (dear me, I said move on) to the next bill. Just say, “Fine, you want to filibuster – go for it – your call, Republicans” and put the responsibility and the blame where it belongs. Trent Lott, who really has not learned what trouble that mouth of his can get him, was proud of what he considers the success of Republican obstructionism. Well, they like it, salute their success as obstructionists!
And while I’m at it, the President’s remarks about Schipp – his taunt that he will veto the bill – that is truly the worst! Denying medical care to children to further your own ideological agenda – does it get lower than that????
Politicizing the military…yes…and at worst…creating a private band of high paid mercenaries that has virtually no oversight of the American public. If anything undermines the military, it is this:
We pay the public military less, poorly equip them, keep them on constant rotation into the battlefield, force them to stay past their enlistment time using legal technicalities, nickle and dime them on the benefits they are supposed to receive for being wounded in battle, and in the end provide them the shittiest of healthcare.
All the while, because the military doesn’t have enough troops that are volunteer, they privatize the military with so called contractors like Blackwater and Wackenhut. These are guns for hire, they are not trained by or taught the ethics of our traditional military, and their are few checks and balances. They are also paid much much much more…again…while our military families can barely make it.
Disgusting that the GOP can make any kind of claim on supporting the military when they have done nothing but undermine it. I am not sure, given what we know about how are soldiers are treated, that I would do anything but counsel against a young person entering our current military. Sad…but true.
You can rest, Michael. I think that Olbermann’s comments pretty much say it all. His warning about politicizing the military is about as ominous as it gets.
