I sat in for a presentation from SOSAZ for SecularAZ.org on the proposed citizen’s Initiative Petition effort (protectedaz.com) to limit the ESA Universal Voucher program here in AZ. I thought it an excellent discussion that addressed many questions about the planned ballot proposition.
The proposed language (PDF Link) is pending legislative council legal review. SOSAZ expects that petitions will be available to circulate before the end of March. Sign up now to volunteer for the effort today!
For a stark example of the sort of corrupt and absolutely unacceptable things happening with Arizona’s ESA Universal Vouchers, read this exposé from Pro Publica about the Arizona program. This sort of thing directly undermines (I read as violates, but the AZSC twisted intself into logical pretzels over a decade to allow this to happen… possibly a post on that if I get a lot of comments demanding that story) our Arizona Constitution’s Blaine Amendment, which is supposed to preclude funding private schools (especially religious ones) with state tax dollars.
