State has to return candy to baby

by David Safier
Way back in February, the Rs decided to take $7 million from First Things First, a fund created by the voters to pay for childhood education and child health issues. Sure, the fund was approved by voters and so it can't be touched by legislators, but the Rs figured, the $7 million is interest the fund has accrued, not the fund itself, so it's OK to steal it sweep it into the state budget.

As easy as stealing candy from a baby.

Turns out there's a problem. The Arizona Supreme Court ruled the theft sweep was a violation of the State Constitution. So they have to give it back.

Here's the classic comment from the Accidental Guv's spokesman Paul Senseman:

“It certainly makes balancing the budget more difficult.”

Y'know, I had all my credit cards paid off and a few dollars left for a small vacation after I knocked over that bank. If I ever get caught, it's certainly going to put a crimp in my finances.
