The new reality TV series "Survivor – GOP Presidential Primary" returns for a new episode on Wednesday, this time hosted by NBC News-MSNBC and right-leaning Politico, which had to cancel a debate earlier this year due to a lack of candidates.
Now there are so many candidates that NBC/Politico are not allowing everyone to participate. Who are they to decide? You can always fit another clown in the clown car.
Here are the essential details from Shallow Nation (because it just seemed so appropriate):
– The debate is cosponsored by NBC News-MSNBC and Politico in association with former First Lady Nancy Reagan and the Reagan Foundation and Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.
– Eight GOP candidates participate in the event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA with moderators NBC News Anchor Brian Williams and Politico Editor-in-Chief John F. Harris. It will be broadcast live on television on MSNBC cable channel starting at 8 p.m. ET. (5 p.m. PT).
– The eight candidates: Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota; Herman Cain, radio talk show host and former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza; former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich; former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman; Rep. Ron Paul of Texas; Texas Governor Rick Perry; former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney; and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. In order to participate candidates had to meet eligibility standards; a formal announcement of his or her intention to run for the presidency and poll numbers indicating at least 4 percent support among Republican voters.
[In that case, why are Rick "man on dog"" Santorum and Jon "one percent" Huntsman included? RealClearPolitics – Election 2012 – 2012 Republican Presidential Nomination (polling)]
– In advance of the debate you can submit your questions for the candidates via Twitter using the hash tag #reagandebate.
Please do submit your concise and pointed questions for the candidates, not that the media villager hosts will ever use them. The "Survivor" debates have been dull fare so far.
Looking ahead to the next episode of "Survivor – GOP Presidential Primary" — it will be hosted by TeaNN (formerly CNN) and the Koch brothers' Tea Party Express on Monday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET from the Florida State Fair Grounds in Tampa, FL. You can submit Your questions for the CNN/Tea Party debate in advance of the debate, not that the hosts of this Tea Party clusterfuck will ever use your questions.
TeaNN and its partner, the Koch brothers' Tea Party Express, extended an invitation to Rudy "a noun, a verb and 9/11" Giuliani, who thankfully declined, and an invitation to the Quitta from Wasilla, Sarah Palin, who has not yet responded to the invitation. GOP hopefuls will face off in CNN Tea Party Debate – CNN Political Ticker. Will the Queen of Mean finally make her debate debut?
TeaNN set the bar pretty low to qualify — one does not even have to be a declared candidate, and the polling average is only 2%. Criteria for the Tea Party Republican Debate – CNN Political Ticker.
In that case, let in former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson; former Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer; lead guitarist for the New Flying Squirrels, Rep. Thadeus McCotter (MI); political consultant and gay rights activist Fred Karger; the "people's attorney general" Andy Martin; flight attendant Tom Miller; businessman Vern Wuensche; and — oh please, you really have to let this guy participate — former New York mayoral, gubernatorial and senatorial candidate of the Rent Is Too Damn High Party, Jimmy McMillan (please bring the puppet!) 2012 Republican Presidential Candidates.
The debates would be so much more entertaining if the media villagers let all the clowns in the clown car participate instead of the media villagers choosing whom they prefer will allow to participate.
