Busy 2nd Saturday Downtown with Tucson Meet Yourself too

Busy day on October 11, with the usual 2nd Saturday Downtown activities along Congress Street, from the Hotel Congress west to the Fox Tucson Theatre. This monthly Tucson urban street fest’s entertainment schedule is here: www.2ndsaturdaysdowntown.com.

It’s also the 2nd day of the 3 day folklife festival Tucson Meet Yourself (TMY) in its 41st year, which is mostly at Jacome Plaza (outside the Joel D. Valdez Main library, between Alameda and Pennington, along Stone Avenue), and El Presidio Park. Check out the three entertainment stages at TMY, as well as the Folk Art demonstrations in the Pima County Courthouse courtyard.  Their entertainment here: http://www.tucsonmeetyourself.org/2014-performance-schedule/. New Youth Design Team at Pima County Public Library

Just learned about a terrific new youth media center project designed by a Youth Design Team  at the Pima County Public Library’s Joel D. Valdez main library downtown (101 N. Stone Ave.). Their vision:

“Our vision is a thriving youth community where all youth are passionate, empowered, connected, and use their voice to create a better world.”

A $100,000 planning grant from the Institute of Museum & Library Services and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation made this project a reality – “to work with youth to design a community learning lab for Tucson’s youth to dream, learn, take action and fulfill their potential”.
