Scores of registered Pima County voters signed the Justice For All petition on No Kings Day on March 28. The measure aims to put a Public Defender in Immigration Court.

Courthouse arrests are real—and aggressive
ICE has arrested men, women and children at immigration court appearances and even violated court orders, in San Francisco, Denver and Louisiana.
- In Phoenix immigration court, ICE agents arrested people immediately after hearings—sometimes after their cases were dismissed.
- Attorneys described the scene as “mayhem,” with agents waiting nearby and taking people into custody outside the courtroom.
- Agents arrested people in hallways, elevators, and parking lots.
- When protests began, agents followed people after they left court and arrested them on the drive home.
The U.S. Department of Justice recently acknowledged that ICE misstated its legal authority to make some courthouse arrests. Critics say the practice discourages immigrants from attending court, undermining due process. Some courts and states (like parts of California) have moved to restrict or block these arrests.
When the Pima County Justice For All initiative is passed, defenseless immigrants in court will have a pro-bono Public Defender who speaks their language to defend them, explain the court proceedings, and put legal leash on the murdering kidnappers in ICE.
