The Accidental Governor will find that succession to office is so much easier than election to office.
Jan Brewer will announce today that she intends to run for governor in 2010. Apparently she believes that gross incompetence and abject failure are to be rewarded.
The Arizona Capitol Times (subscription required) reports:
Gov. Jan Brewer is expected to put an end to the questions about her candidacy this evening (Nov. 5) with an announcement that she will seek a full term as governor. Brewer is scheduled to speak at Westmarc's 17th annual Best of the West awards dinner. One source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the Arizona Capitol Times the announcement would be made at the event.
More here Brewer to announce gubernatorial bid, and here Brewer to announce she'll run for governor.
This sets up a GOP primary with "Lyin' John" Munger (the reverse Robin Hood candidate who wants to enrich the wealthy at the expense of the poor), Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker who is expected to enter the race, and State Treasurer Dean Martin who is "seriously considering" running for governor. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is also making noises about running for governor. There is a host of lesser known Republicans who have already filed to run for governor, setting up a potential clusterf#?k GOP primary.
Brewer has angered the Grover Norquist anti-tax zealot Republicans in her party by calling for a temporary sales tax increase to improve state tax revenues to close an estimated $2 billion plus budget deficit. Brewer is reportedly considering a fifth Special Session between Thanksgiving and Christmas to try again for a sales tax hike. Brewer angling for fifth special session before she calls fourth one (Arizona Guardian, subscription required).
Will Brewer's insistence upon a sales tax hike bring out the Dick Army of teabaggers against her? Will the Teabagger Taliban do to her what they did to Dede Scozzafava in NY-23? Let's get ready to rumble!
