The Big Ugly Bill has Passed

Well, it happened.

It was probably easy to predict – Republican majorities in the House and Senate have passed one of the most damaging bills in our country’s history, the budget reconciliation package.

I do have to say, at least Senator Schumer did us a favor by using obscure Senate rules to eliminate the prior title. Many have ridiculed this move, as it had no substantive effect on the bill itself. But I take this as a small silver lining to the devastating dark cloud of this legislation – no longer do we have to refer to the bill as anything like “beautiful.” (Some journalists seem to feel obligated to use the prior name because it was the official one. It is no longer). Now we all are free to call it what we’d like.

Be creative!

Here, I tried “Big Ugly”; it also could have been “Cruel and Idiotic.” But I think that we can all get creative to describe the bill as we see it. Get creative! And then start NOW to unseat the cowards who passed this poisonous garbage. Hey, that’s another possibility: the “Poisonous Garbage” bill.

A note:

Here I am not discussing the many ways in which the legislation will harm people, from damaging health care, food security, and human dignity in general, not to mention providing funding for speeding our descent into a police state. There will be many articles about these terrible likely consequences, such as this. I’m just having a little fun in a terrible situation. Better to laugh than cry (and there is plenty to cry about in this bill).
