The Dawn Of A New Day In Arizona: Swearing-in Ceremony Today

Today we are finally rid of the smarmy ice cream man hired by Koch Industries to run their Southwest subsidiary formerly known as the state of Arizona. Rejoice!

A new slate of statewide officials will be sworn into office Monday in a brief private ceremony.

Although the day is a state holiday, the Arizona Constitution requires the officials’ terms must start on the first Monday of January.

Taking the oath of office will be Katie Hobbs as governor, Adrian Fontes as secretary of state, Kris Mayes as attorney general, Kimberly Yee as treasurer, Tom Horne as state superintendent of public instruction and Paul Marsh as state mine inspector.

It is the first time in 48 years (since the inauguration of Raul Castro, Wesley Bolin and Bruce Babbitt) that the top three posts in state government have been filled by Democratswe were young and had so much optimism for the future then – driven in part by voter rejection of the slate of Trump-endorsed Republicans who ran against Hobbs, Fontes and Mayes.

The event will be closed to the public, with a pool photographer present to document the event. No reporters are allowed.

Hobbs will be sworn in by her friend and federal judge Roopali H. Desai, who was recently appointed and confirmed to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, according to Anjan Mukherjee, a senior adviser to the Hobbs campaign.

The event will be repeated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at a public ceremony on the Capitol mall at 1700 W. Washington St., with Desai again swearing in Hobbs.

“As provided by the Arizona state constitution, the governor-elect’s term begins on the first Monday of January, which falls on January 2nd, 2023. Because that date is a state holiday this year, the governor-elect decided to host the public swearing in ceremony a few days later so that it would be more accessible for the public,” Mukherjee said.

  1. In Cochise, every dry well property owner who voted for the crazies, like Griffin, cannot complain.

  2. Mohave County got an Irrigation Non-Expansion Designation, so progress was made there from ADWR.The problem in Cochise is you have a legislator and and former supervisor in the pocket of Big Ag and the real estate industry, who fights for no regulations on ANYTHING, until every square inch of the county is chopped into wildcat sudivisions (see Scottsdale case for info), and Big Ag pumps every square inch dry. But this one of the big messes Ducey left to Hobbs.

    • I agree with everything you said. What I do not understand why she would continue Tom anti AMA Buschatzke at ADWR. He and Gail are a match made in Heaven to protect Big Ag, the Developers and the Mine people. WHY stick with him? IT is very depressing for me as I see him and Gail Griffin as2 huge obstacles in accomplishing progress.

  3. This is exciting for us. Glad to see the smarmy ice cream creep leave and new blood with humane leadership skills. Hopefully the MAGATS will leave and move to Fl or TX. They have done nothing for us since Napolitano. We voted, we won, now all those liars and Q people can leave.

  4. Help me see the “NEW” dawn in AZ. WIth her refusal for disclosing the donors to the festivities, keeping on Ducey’s Tom Buschatzke, who fought hard and succeeded to defeat the AMA for Wilcox Basin, there is little “new” to rejoice about and a lot tobe concerned about. It is absolutely crushing to watch how she is starting this “NEW DAWN” for AZ.
